"Poll Finds Republicans in Bad Shape

As the 2006 midterm election season approaches, Political Wire has seen a copy of a new Winston Group (R) poll that shows Americans turning away from the Republican party. (There's no link yet on the firm's website.)

Those surveyed had less confidence in Republicans to handle a wide range of issues, including education, Social Security, health care, jobs and energy prices. Democrats beat Republicans by at least 9 percentage points in each category. In addition, Democrats were also viewed as better able to handle war in Iraq and the economy.

In fact, the only bad news for Democrats is that they are viewed as overly partisan. In particular, Democrats were seen as more likely to instigate partisan attacks over two recent issues in the news -- the federal government's hurricane response and the nomination of John Roberts to the Supreme Court. "

I think the people who voted for Bush, especially the second time, are squirming in extreme discomfort over the state our country is in, and every Democratic attack just drives their guilt factor up. They finally have to face the consequences of their denial of reality, and it's damned uncomfortable for them.

10. Propaganda successful: only Dems viewed as "overly" partisan

Amazing that GOP-corporate tv can advocate its positions nonstop and remain invisible to the sheeple. Yet, when someone gets a word of protest in edgewise, they are seen as being partisan. Hello. The corporate media produces the partisan water we swim in. It seems so natural that most people don't even recognize it as a political position. Opposition and criticism were formerly accepted components of a functioning democracy. Only under this regime is criticism seen as aberrant.

11. Good news but

the overly partisan thing is stupid. They have right wing radio hosts blanketed over every mile of the US screaming about how awful, evil and horrible we are. They brought down a president over a BLOWJOB and yet we are the ones who are partisan?

Roberts seems so nice and everything....can't wait to see John Q Public's face when he's the one who overturns Roe v. Wade and decides WalMart is a "person" with more rights than the rest of us.
