Judge deems big part of Bush's "healthy forests act" illegal!

A California court has concluded that the USFS must allow environmental evaluations and public involvement in any sized USFS project. The Bush admin had sought to wipe out any kind of public involvement or NEPA evaluation on projects smaller than a couple thousand acres. That would have given the green light to log roadless and non-roadless portions of national forest lands without ANY public involvement or requirement to look for rare species and possible damage to water quality. This was a huge part of the "healthy forest act" that industry donors were salivating over. Now, they will be kicking and screaming once again :)

Yesterday the influential House Resources Committee voted 26-12 to advance a bill that would severely undermine the Endangered Species Act. The legislation, introduced earlier this week by Representative Richard Pombo (R-CA), would dismantle key protections for wolves, bald eagles and other endangered wildlife.

The full House could vote on this bill as soon as Tuesday. Please send a message to your Representative right now urging him or her to vote against the Pombo bill.

He doesn't vote unless there is a tie - which means he never votes or represents us in our district. And if he was a voting kind of guy, my bet is that he could care less about the Endangered Species Act because it takes good money out of the hands of developers...

Only hope I have is that we vote him out in 2006 because of the overwhelming evidence (please, please, please) in the Turkish money campaign scandal brewing on his horizon.
