Kerry Planning Iraq Speech
SNIP:

Kerry is working on another speech “laying out a timetable for Iraqis to regain control of their country.”

The speech was the second in a series of administration critiques and Democratic proposals being outlined by Kerry. Last week he focused more extensively on Hurricane Katrina. He said Monday he is preparing another speech laying out a timetable for Iraqis to regain control of their country.

In response to questions from an audience of about 500, Kerry said the nation can only afford to pay for the Iraqi war as well as the cleanup of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita if it forgoes tax cuts the wealthiest 1 percent of Americans are slated to receive next year and also considers a windfall tax on recent oil profits.

2. I wish sometimes Kerry would just speak and stop planning
so much. He's a bright articulate guy, but everything about him is so contrived. Just do it, John!

5. You know the Republicans aren't listening
Edited on Mon Sep-26-05 08:33 PM by Kerry2008
but it's still good to see John out there spreading the message about the Iraq war going in the wrong direction, and offering an alternative message.

Good work Kerry!

10. Really? I disagree -
I have a registered republican from Louisiana, on my blog on a daily basis who is listening and because he's been listening he's registering as a Democrat.

"Donnie From Houma, LA Says:

September 20th, 2005 at 12:08 am
...where do I begin? I am humbled by the words spoken by the man I told you in recent days, that I like more each day. It goes beyond that now, I must admit to the fact now, that I really have come to respect this man. His words ring loud, and I have heard him. I hope that others will hear him. There are so many things that I want to tell you, but I will email you and cover most of it.

I just had a talk with another Republican buddy that I have known for years, and after a heart to heart talk, he broke down and he admitted that we have messed up, and we have to go in a diff. direction. He said that we have to look for someone that is a real leader, and not make this mistake again. He’s not sold on Kerry or the Dem. party, but I don’t see him backing the GOP in the future elections. He is hurt, and might not trust anyone soon.

These recent days have been real emotional for people like us down here, and I can only hope that we can open dialog, during the future days, with my people down here. Emotions that I had, reading Mr. Kerry’s comments, have come to Re-Enforce what I have said and done lately."

6. Does Kerry Understand He

Lost the Election.....Hed's not the President....Kerry let us down and broke his promise and did not count all the votes.

I wish Kerry would let a democrat who has some influence handle an issue of this sort.....You all know him....He should have been the 43 President.....Al Gore

and he let us down. Which is it already? Pick. He lost or he won and didn't fight for it.

30. Why would someone who holds no office have more influence
Edited on Mon Sep-26-05 10:44 PM by LittleClarkie
than someone who is one the Foreign Affairs Committee?

And he is still involved in the GLib lawsuit in Ohio.

Now I like Gore and all, but why do I get the feeling you bring him up because he's your favorite, not because you think he has a ton of influence.

7. As usual
about three weeks too late.

I still have my Kerry signs - but am so disappointed in his verbose responses and lack of significant MSM reponse by his 'team" - whomever that might be.

Stilll wait for the right moment to post thee sign in my yard - may have to wait until Nov 4.

I remain a Clark first choice.

13. Did you read his Brown University Speech? "the Katrina Administration"
If not you should. BTW it is part of a series for a College audience, so it is pitched accordingly

http://www.johnkerry.com/pressroom/speeches/spc_2005_09_19.html

<snip>

The administration is recycling all their failed policies and shipping them to Louisiana. After four years of ideological excess, these Washington Republicans have a bad hangover -- and they can't think of anything to offer the Gulf Coast but the hair of the dog that bit them.

And amazingly -- or perhaps not given who we’re dealing with -- this massive reconstruction project will be overseen not by a team of experienced city planners or developers, but according to the New York Times, by the Chief of Politics in the White House and Republican Party, none other than Karl Rove -- barring of course that he is indicted for "outing" an undercover CIA intelligence officer.

Katrina is a symbol of all this administration does and doesn't do. Michael Brown -- or Brownie as the President so famously thanked him for doing a heck of a job - Brownie is to Katrina what Paul Bremer is to peace in Iraq; what George Tenet is to slam dunk intelligence; what Paul Wolfowitz is to parades paved with flowers in Baghdad; what Dick Cheney is to visionary energy policy; what Donald Rumsfeld is to basic war planning; what Tom Delay is to ethics; and what George Bush is to “Mission Accomplished” and "Wanted Dead or Alive." The bottom line is simple: The "we'll do whatever it takes" administration doesn't have what it takes to get the job done.

This is the Katrina administration.

18. Kerry has been a frequent voice of concern over this war.
He mentioned the mess and poor planning in Iraq in his speech last Monday at Brown University. Actually,Clark's position is very similar to Kerry's.

tell the truth and provide some direction. I heard he just recently made a trip to Iraq to visit with the soldiers and to see for himself the state of affairs over there. I can barely wait for what he has to say. John Kerry - a man with answers.

that Ms. Sheehan has a 'Meeting Pending' with Sen. Kerry.

This is good. She has met with 12 members of Congress already, and has a meeting pending with 36 more. This is progress.

I am glad Sen. Kerry is planning an Iraq speech and glad that he is meeting with Cindy Sheehan. That's a good.

Edited on Mon Sep-26-05 09:15 PM by welshTerrier2
glad to hear Kerry plans to speak out on Iraq ... let us know when he does ... "planning a speech" is nice but it's hardly news ...

from "All the Presidents Men" (Ben Bradlee refused to print a story about a "planned" audit until the audit was completed):

ROSENFELD
--you are ignoring the importance of
the Dahlberg repercussions--

NATIONAL EDITOR
--nobody gives a shit about the
Dahlberg repercussions--

ROSENFELD
(to NATIONAL EDITOR)
--quit equivocating, say what you
mean--
(to SIMONS and BRADLEE)
--our story got Government Accounting
to start an audit on CREEP's finances--

BRADLEE
--and we printed that, didn't we,
Harry? And when the frigging audit's
done, we'll print that too--

humblest apologies ... i will be elated if and when Kerry decides to stand up and be a leader of the anti-war resistance ... we are truly a candidateless movement ... and so it shall remain until someone stands up and earns the job ...

just wish Kerry would elevate the importance of issuing his Iraq position ... his other speeches have been good ...

29. I think Katrina played the trump card recently...
If Katrina had no happened no doubt we would have more about his Iraq trip by now and this pending speech would have happened sooner. We can't fault mother nature - nor can we fault Kerry for respecting the gravity of the disaster and getting right in there to do what he could to do to help.

These last few speeches have been awesome!

31. what do you think Kerry should say about Iraq?
i'm always frustrated that those supporting candidates never write about their own thoughts ... i understand that many elected Dems have much more access to information than we do ... but that doesn't mean we shouldn't form our own opinions ...

what's your position on Iraq?
