11. McCain
John McCain was pretty well beatin-up by his own party during the Republican primaries. He is seen as a moderate who swings from the party platform too often. A Statesman, but don't look for his party to give him the nod. He has made too many enemies. Look for someone who is more "in line". A blatant liar with no conscience. Who could it be? John is just too intelligent and honest.

Thanks, nice to have a welcome! I was browsing for some news and discussion as all the networks news outlets have gone storm crazy. Found this poll and felt it is really THE most important question we Dem's need to answer. Look forward to some thoughtful exploration here.
Cheers,

5. Cheney will run
He is the dark horse candidate. He's arrogant enough to think he can walk away with it.

If he is the candidate I hope Clark is the Dem nominee. I am still not convinced the powers that be in the Democratic hierarchy will go for him as a candidate but I do think he could beat Cheney.

He jumps in at the last moment unscathed from the dog eat dog world of the democratic side show which will have just taken place. He then drafts barbara Boxer for VP and cruises into the White house while everybody else gets indicted.

33. Assuming Cheney is alive in 2008, he is the best debator they
have got. McCain will be too old in 2008 and Rudy is too moderate
for most repugs.

My bet is on Mitt Romney....he is young and good looking but
an empty suit. We can defeat him easily.

7. We run Wes Clark....
as he is the one that can decimate them all...not just one or two.

McCain will be exposed for who he really is by the Clark campaign...cause the election won't be about Swiftboating either one. hell, Clark's service in Vietnam...where he almost died....Or McCain's POW status won't even be the issue.

Clark won a war 6 years ago. That's pretty recent!

Giluiani will be reduced to laughing stock.

Romney has not foreign policy experience, so he's toast.

Allen....Wes will just make him look stoopid!...since he is!

What would you think of an Edwards / Obama ticket. Sounds nice at first but Edwards has already proven that he can't carry the south. I don't think Obama would fare much better. Good men both, but this is, after all, politics.

16. Romney probably not
I would be surprised to see the Republicans offer up a current Mass. politician as their nominee. Seems a north-easterner just can't carry the weight. despite his involvement in the Salt Lake Organizing Committee and his record as three-term Michigan Governor as well as his Brigham Young University roots I'm just not convinced. But surely I'll keep watching him out of the corner of my eye.

39. They'll say he comes from Michigan
but the internal politics of the party will prevent him or anyone being ushered in. Not to be taken lightly, however.

Plan B - "This is contraception, not abortion. The only connection it has with abortion is that it can prevent them."

Head of the FDA's Office of Women's Health for 5 years, Dr. Susan Wood, who resigned in protest days after then FDA director Lester Crawford once again failed to release a decision regarding Plan B before resigning himself.

22. Too much racial baggage....
The GOP has to pretend to like black people, and repukes probably don't want to have a candidate who has to explain why he felt a noose was appropriate law office decor or how a Confederate battle flag made it onto his living room wall or why he spraypainted racist graffiti on the walls of his school when he was a high school senior.

Allen's lack of intelligence and willingness to spout the party line definitely qualify him to run as a GOP candidate, but putting a racist on the ticket - while it would be considered a plus by many of the faithful - wouldn't play well nationally.

41. Father was former NFL Coach of
LA Rams and Washington Redskins.

Lawyer. Former Virginia Governor. Currently married to second wife. Three children.

Born and raised in Los Angeles area, but pretends to be a Southerner.

Interest in Confederacy dates back to high school days when he was probably the only teenager in Southern Calif. with Confederate flag stickers on his car. Defaced his high school with anti-white graffiti to make it look like work of blacks - for no other reason than to stir up racial hatred.

Votes the repuke party line. IQ is somewhere in the range of the current WH occupant.

A real piece of work.

37. I honestly don't think it would matter a whole lot.
The GOP would classify it as a smear attack and sweep it under the table, and make the Democrats look bad for constantly bringing it back up (if that's what they did). It might play well, it might not, but I don't think its going to factor into the election much, except to further alienate African-Americans from the GOP, which they weren't relying on for votes anyways.

42. Trent Lott was demoted because of
a racially insensitive comment. Certainly no secret that the GOP is close to being a "white's only" party, but they take pains at their conventions, at least, to try and appear diverse.

I don't think that pointing out facts - all of which Allen has previously admitted - can be easily dismissed as a "smear attack." I think it would put him on the defensive, not a good position in football (Allen loves football metaphors) or a political campaign.

Ever hear him in a debate ? The only reason he got to where he is is because his daddy was a famous football coach, he rode Bill Clinton's economy to the governors office, and then defeated a flawed Chuck Robb..

I have a feeling American has had enough of bumbling beneficiaries of famous fathers!!!

19. Well, his son just got arrested in Austin for drunkeness and resisting
arrest. Guess with Bushes, that wouldn't matter, huh. The last thing I had heard about Jeb was that he came into the Florida governorship with 6 million and he was down to 2 million and was fearing that he was going broke. Thus, he wanted to get into the private sector to beef up his bank account. Also, his friends say that he doesn't have the disposition - too angry and cranky. And he has too many "skeletons,"

21. They'll run Jeb if they can get the Democrats to run a lousy enough
candidate. They need a Democratic nominee that Republican leaning voters will look at and end up thinking - I'm not really thrilled with putting another Bush in office, but Jeb doesn't have his brother's drinking problem and I'm not voting for that schmuck (the Democratic nominee) and that enough Democratic leaning voters will look at and be so fed up that they just stay home.

The real question is whether the Republicans can "help" the Democrats run enough of a loser that the Republicans can risk putting Jeb on the ticket. Unfortunately, I think the odds favor the Republicans.

Now theres a scary yet plausible thought you bring up. If Minnesotans elected a pro wrestler and California has the governator why not America elect yet another Bush! Lets face it, the avrage attention span of many voting neo-cons I run across is about 3 seconds. About that of a goldfish. They wouldn't have to concern themselves with things like issues, responsibility, or even truth. Simple name recognition. Damn, If the Republicans run Jeb were in deep friends. The more I ponder it the more really hideously possible it seems.

30. No your not!
McCain can certainly be beaten. Heck he was tossed on a red hot cactus by his own party. Wasn't it actually McCain who lost his temper back in the republican primaries (a la Dean) which led his fellows to label him "unstable" and "still suffering from his POW days". Fellow republicans all but had him committed after taking ax handles to his reputation, the crawling vermin. But they did prove he is not unbeatable. Shortly after the primaries there were muted murmurings, coming from dark corners, that McCain might even switch parties. Ah but all this is so much in the past. Or is it?

Though I doubt he'll make it past the primaries.

He's already pissed off many hard core RWers on the issue of immigration, which is likely to be the issue in the Republican primaries: http://www.bizjournals.com/phoenix/stories/2005/05/23/daily28.html

McCain has already reached across the isle to Kennedy on immigration, Campaign finance reform and hes now even gone as far as to meet with Cindy Sheehan. Sheehan has meetings scheduled with Ted Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi and Henry Waxman - as well as Clinton and McCain. The press calls the McCain meeting "completely inexplicable". I'm going to check the the Vegas odds on McCain running in 2008 as a Democrat. I think they are going down as I type.

Will be their ticket. McCain and Jeb will run ultimately losing campaigns. The party will heatedly splinter, and Clark/Feingold will usher in a new era of Democratic leadership.
Dean will head the FDA, Biden will be SOD, Rubin will be SOC. Bloomberg will be asked to serve as Sec of Ed, but Martin O'Malley will take it. If there is a Supreme Court opening, Hilary has it. Hegel will be asked to be HomeSec Director. Snowe will be asked to run FEMA.

That's all I can divulge at the moment.....Okay?
