If every American who understands the difference between inadvertent mistakes and calculated lies marched up to Bush`s front gates, police couldn`t lug off enough Cindys to make a dent in the masses. If reasonable Americans can grasp the difference between lying about a secret affair and lying about reasons for war, then Bush should be impeached. This is our moment of truth, a time when we either stand up and be counted or we sit in obedient silence while the Bush administration destroys whatever is left of our collective, national conscience.
During the Vietnam War protests, nobody I knew needed an elbow in the ribs to coax them onto the streets. We weren`t worried about what the neighbors might think or about some foolish label someone might use to describe us. None of that mattered. What did matter were the conveyer belt body bags and napalmed children, the working poor used for cannon fodder and the lies sullying our national honor. The shame belonged to the government responsible for the horror, not the people trying to stop it.
Don`t let Rove`s dirt machine scare you into silence or force you into indifference. Howard Dean`s "You have the power" really means something. DU members who participated in the Vietnam War protests will tell you we made a difference. First, you have to believe, then you have to act...like your life depends on it...because it does.
We have Bush on the run, as is evidenced by his frequent flier hurricane miles and his desperate attempts to excuse the inexcusable. He`s frazzled, incoherent and hardly able to believe that most Americans no longer buy his choreographed sideshows. I watched it happen with Nixon and Bush is well on his way. Keep the heat on this guy...this fraud...and you`ll see him crack.
