Brown Blames 'Dysfunctional' Louisiana Ex-FEMA Chief Brown Lays Much of Blame for Katrina Response on 'Dysfunctional' La. Leadership

By LARA JAKES JORDAN Associated Press Writer
The Associated Press

WASHINGTON Sep 27, 2005 — Former FEMA director Michael Brown aggressively defended his role in responding to Hurricane Katrina on Tuesday and put much of the blame for coordination failures on Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco and New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin.

"My biggest mistake was not recognizing by Saturday that Louisiana was dysfunctional," Brown told a special congressional panel set up by House Republican leaders to investigate the catastrophe.

Brown's defense drew a scathing response from Rep. William Jefferson, D-La.

"I find it absolutely stunning that this hearing would start out with you, Mr. Brown, laying the blame for FEMA's failings at the feet of the governor of Louisiana and the Mayor of New Orleans."

Brown, who for many became a symbol of government failures in the natural disaster that claimed the lives of more than 1,000 people, rejected accusations that he was too inexperienced for the job.

2. I think he's been hitting the bottle with Georgie...
Brownie is the posterchild for this administration: A total fuckup who blames everyone else that he's a fuckup...
We will not be OK until these people are marched out of the White House.

That's EXACTLY what "Brownie" is. Or shouldn't that be "Brown-nosey?" Maybe he's the new Monica in bush's back office? Certainly had some qualifications for being kept on the payroll - maybe hush money, or perhaps a guarantee of a spot in the Carlyle Group or with his old roomie over at Halliburton after he takes all the punches for the White House. In sparring class, I think it's called an uki (not sure of spelling) - the person who lets you practice all your punching and kicking on him/her.

BTW - WELCOME to DU!!!!

Glad you're here. Vent anytime you need it. That's one of the LOVELIEST things about this place. You vent about stuff like this, and there are LOTS of people who understand, sympathize, and agree. You have MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH company and support here. We're all venting about the same shit.

:toast: :hi: :D

BTW, Brownnose, since YOUR pResident finally conceded he bears responsibility for fuckups at the federal level, you DO realize you're making a liar out of him, dontcha? Of course, the guy does well enough making a liar out of himself without any help from you...

and shouted orders to get more equipment, ice, food water to LA, MS and new orleans ASAP. I mean what the fuck were they talking about during those conference calls(where he didn't take any notes btw) cajun recipes.

11. Has anyone questioned him about the criminal negligence
in Mississippi, too? (FEMA neglecting that state)

Blanco had nothing to do with that. Bastard.

25. Yeah, did you notice he only blamed the Demo gov, and
not the Rethug gov? But if by blaming Blanco (and Nagin) he thinks he will get off the hook (he won't), does not blaming the Mississippi gov mean Brownie is to blame? Didn't think that one through, did ya, Drownie?

17. using their logic...they really should literally just kill all poor people
....and be done with them once and for all..instead of contiually making them suffer so they can have theirs...but then who would they look down upon and blame for all their problems? :(

21. WTF!!
Brownie, the much maligned, former head of FEMA, is now a paid witness (consultant) for his own defense at the hearing before the Republican led House Select Hurricane Katrina Committee (aka the Bush administration investigating the Bush administration).
