Last Chance to Opt Out!
Because most school districts hand over information to recruiters in October, this week may be your last chance to opt out your child for this entire school year. Be sure to get your forms in (or tell your friends) before Friday September 30.
High school-aged youth who are being home schooled often have to register with local districts for testing and credit - and this usually puts them on the lists given to recruiters. Private school kids 16 and over are at risk of recruitment via the Pentagon's JAMRS database. You can use our one-stop opt-out site to generate letters to both your local district and the Pentagon. Just click on the link below to opt out:

We've heard amazing stories from across the country about your successes on this campaign: opt out questions have been added to emergency contact forms (Calif. and Maine), school districts have added information on websites (New Jersey), and letters have gone home to parents (lots of places!). One team in Edmonds, Wash. has been organizing before-school vigils and passing out opt-out forms. See them in action here. In Macomb, Ill., concerned citizens (one a 20-year military vet) held an event at City Hall to show the Leave My Child Alone DVD - and prompted a great article in their local paper that informed parents about opting out.
If you haven't let anyone from Leave My Child Alone know about your local success story, please email it to Leave My Child Alone:

National PTA spreads the word and takes a stand
The National PTA recently added information to their website about family privacy and their support of "Opt In" legislation. This will help PTAs across the country raise awareness and improve school district policies on these issues:

Pass it on!
Are all the parents and students on your email list aware of their ability to opt out? Do you know grandparents, teachers or others who could help spread the word? Please forward this email to your friends and family to make sure all our children can be opted out in time this fall. Think they need more information?
