If you think FEMA should be disbanded and your fellow American citizens should fend for themselves in time of crisis, you are garbage. You should be set out by the curb waiting to be taken to a landfill where you belong.

I was called a coward and had my patriotism questioned in 2003 when I opposed the war in Iraq, even though I spent 24 years in uniform; did one tour in a combat zone. Every day I see the hate spewed forth by those who call themselves Christian. People like michael brown are garbage who are too damned proud to say they are and were wrong and he knows he is supported by moron Americans who are too damned proud to realize their support of this administration is ruining this country. I don't give a fuck about crossovers. You either want to be right or you want to wrong and nothing about the republican party, george bush or his supporters has been right for our country since he was sworn in in 2001. I'd rather not rationalize; I have found that kicking ass is a much more effective attitude adjuster. Conservatives are jerks, rationalization does not work with jerks.

but I just can't be that harsh about Bush supporters. People support Bush for any number of reasons, among them

Lack of access to information
Cultural pressures or traditions
Lack of interest in politics because of life circumstances
An inherent need to believe authority is good and decent

I don't think we should "blame" people for their vote. The red state folks are very sensitive to that level of blame from the "elite left." If we don't let go of it we will never get them to see the truth.

We on the "left" can forgive people for all sorts of things... looting, terrorist acts, crimes that land people in jail. We see nuance, we have compassion. Can't we find some of that for our countrymen who have made bad decisions and just haven't seen the light yet?

Aren't we as bad as the RW freeper types if we close ourselves off?
