Dr. Dean vindicated for "controversial" DeLay remark

Remember the hugh flap last May when Dean had the audacity to state that Tom DeLay should be "serving in jail”?

Well, it appears this is just the latest of a string of Dean's so-called shoot-from-the-hip gaffes that have ultimately been proven to be true.

For instance, remember the outcry (some from fellow Dems) when Howard said the U.S. public was no safer as a result of Saddam being captured? Now the majority of Americans agree, according to polls.

Anybody care to offer up some other examples of a Dean statement originally being called outrageous but later being accepted as true?

He actually said the inspectors should begiven a deadline (rather than an open ended time frame to succeed.) Joe Trippi saw the opening as an anti-war candidate. So, Dean who wasn't a Senator changed his position and was seen as more anti-war than the others (other than Kuchinich). He also was an extremely moderate governor, not a liberal. (In fact every summer when we went to VT, the Burlington paper seemed to be covering some argument or other he was having with a progressive party that exists in VT)

In this country you are innocent till proven quilty. Even now when he has been indicted, the statement is premature. If (heaven forbid)Dean is accused of breaking some law, I would be horrified by RW statements that he should be in jail. but it's as likely that had Kerry have made a strong emotional attack on those attacking him, it would have only made it worse and harder to get his message across (in the 1 -2 minutes allotted). The election was close - if Kerry would have won, the story would be that he didn't allow them to distract him from real issues.

He did put about 120 pages of naval records on the website (which were the complete records of his service, except for 1 page the navy hadn't given him which rated him in the top category and recommended accelerated promotion) and he did get people like a Chicago Tribune editor who was a lt in another boat when he got his silver star to give their accounts. A vast number of charges in the book were disproved. The press, on the Bush accusations condemned Rather for a possibly forged document - even thouh the secretary said the content was as she remembered it and rejected several well sourced charges as well. With Kerry, the book made 100s of charges, people on Kerry's team showed the major ones to be untrue and proved many people were lying and that they were likely coached - and the presses reaction was to ask them to disprove the rest of them.

Fox news's John Gibson says that attorney Earle conspired with the grand jury to get Tom Delay indicted. I can't believe that a mainstream press can say this in USA.
