DeLay Says He Is Innocent of Charges

WASHINGTON

A Texas grand jury on Wednesday charged Rep. Tom DeLay and two political associates with conspiracy in a campaign finance scheme, forcing the House majority leader to temporarily relinquish his post. A defiant DeLay insisted he was innocent and called the prosecutor a "fanatic."

"I have done nothing wrong ... I am innocent," DeLay told a Capitol Hill news conference in which he criticized the prosecutor, Ronnie Earle, repeatedly. DeLay called Earle an "unabashed partisan zealot" and a "fanatic."

1. Here's the Partisan Zealot Fanatical Earle's record....

PHOTO OF RONNIE EARLE

NOTE DATE ON STORY BELOW....

DeLay's first line of defense will be to scream that the Democrat Earle is on a partisan witch hunt. Earle's unsuccessful prosecution of Kay Bailey Hutchison in 1994 for allegations of misappropriated campaign funds while she was State Treasurer will be his Exhibit A, and it will carry some weight. Earle will point out that he's prosecuted quite a few Democratic politicians in his day, with his biggest scalp being that of former Speaker Gib Lewis. I will expect much sound and fury, with the usual results. But I'll keep an eye on it anyway, just in case.

Land Commissioner Garry Mauro, Democrat, investigated in 1992 for political misuse of his agency for Bill Clinton's presidential campaign. Earle found no "conscious pattern of misuse of state property for political or personal purposes."

11. Thanks for your list
I just emailed every CNN show with my comment and included your list. All morning they've been talking about the partisanship accusations against Earle and not one of them gave the public any facts and just let them assume that there must be something to it.

Abrams on MSNBC has a poll asking if partisanship was involved in DeLay's indictment. I also emailed him under comments. At the time I voted:

I'm so sick of half ass reporting I've resolved to call them on it whenever they don't tell the full story.

15. I sent letters to Fox News (Yuk) and also responded to
Msnbc via poll and sent them comments....

------------------
My letter to Fox News on the DeLay "defense" at Comments@foxnews.com
and a similar one sent to MSNBC at question@msnbc.com
-----------------
Dear Fox News,
Mr. Tom De Lay is using the same old tired defense that Republicans use when in trouble; Partisan wichhunt!

Anyone examining Mr. Earle's record of prosecution by party label would not call him a partisan Prosecutor, no matter what party he might belong to. So I ask, why should DeLay's accusations be given the time of day by the media on the question of Mr. Earle's motives? But nevertheless, DeLay is calling Earle a Partisan Zealot Fanatic, and Fox News is bidding his duty by questioning Mr. Earle's motivation without addressing Earle's record as I have detailed it below!

Based on Tom DeLay's attacks on Mr. Earle ethical character, I am calling Mr. DeLay desperate.

Fox, Fair and Balanced? I'm from Missouri; please "show me"!

Respectfully,
C. McClendon

19. Voted in this - it's now 80 - 20 - the "no's" have it.
The only people who claim this is politically motivated are those who probably feel their necks a bit too close to the chopping block.

12. Nope. He should be treated as he did others.
This pathetic little gold-digger should have the golden rule rain down on him like Krakatoa; he gave no quarter and he stretched every statute and gentleman's agreement to fuck everyone in sight. He is a cur and a whelp.

Karma's a bitch, Mr. Weeble, and the fear that you used for your power-mad proof of your superiority has alienated many. There are very few people in your world, and most of them are you. People get that. As the reckless selfishness of idiotic reactionary politics comes back to haunt everyone, nobody should suffer like you.

Suffer.

13. I feel so ashamed
about how I was just laughing at Tom "Jean Valjean" DeLay's statement he was just making.

I'm sure "Free Tom DeLay" signs will now replace "Free Mumia" signs at rallies... Tom will become a Fugitive, searching desperately for the one-armed man he saw laundering money that dark and stormy night...

23. Nah, we should treat him just as Foghorn Leghorn does that dog.
Lump-dump-dummenumen-ump-dump-dum...do dah, do dah.

Foghorn would just go up to him when he's sleeping, lift up his tail and paddle him with a board, just to piss him off.

DeLay needs to be ridiculed, harassed and hounded; he's a mean little cuss, and we can count on him to lash back with a whole host of vicious, squinty little retorts, each reproving what a nasty, vindictive bacterium he is. He has a temper and he's got an ego the size of Texas itself; it's necessary for the world to see just how spiritually ugly this thug is. Have a field day; you'll be surprised how many serious conservatives can't stand Bugboy.
