Wonder how "blind" Cheney's "blind trust" really is....
hope some enterprising investigative journalist were to take up this question - given Cheney's office's direct involvement in securing no-bid HUGE contract's for Halliburton.

Cheney claims that it is blind. And that he "will donate in the future" any proceeds from sales of his stocks and stock options related to Halliburton.

But Cheney also told us of nuclear mushroom clouds (he knew that to be a lie.)

Cheney also told us that Halliburton had had NO business with Saddam - only to be forced later to admit that they were the largest business partner of Saddam in the business of rebuilding the Iraqi oil fields (that is - without Halliburton's massive profits from those contracts - there would have been little oil for the "oil for food scandal.")

So he has a bit of a veracity problem. And a bit of a greed problem.

Any chance that there is a MUCH bigger story than Frist's per "blind trusts" and conflict of interest... just lurking beneath the surface with Cheney?

2. What is the extent of their greed, anyway?
Holy crap, I think that if I could manage to swindle a cool million or two I'd be done. Set for life comfortably. What exactly is the mindset that already has a hundred million dollars and desires that next penny as if it were the only thing in the world?

6. my thoughts exactly.....
When I hear of these CEO's who make 20 or 30 million a year, I have to wonder: just how much money does one person NEED in a year anyway? Hell, I'd be happy if I made 100 grand a year. I'd think I was rich! At what point does the greed become abstract? The actual money doesn't matter as much as the process of making it... getting it any way possible. I don't understand the mindset either. These people already have enough money to live comfortably the rest of their lives.

9. Power and influence
A mere millionaire is nothing in the upper reaches of the moneyed elite. The mere possession of a really huge amount of capital bestows a tremendous amount of personal "clout".

13. It is about power, greed, control, arrogance, superiority ...
Edited on Fri Sep-30-05 09:08 AM by cassiepriam
they want more money then they can even spend. It is about accumulating it all. They feel powerful and in control, and superior. How smart they are to have conned others out of money. They can fill up the missing pieces in their soul, or at least try to...

4. wouldn't that be the mother of all the current scandals?
just imagine the news story, accompanied by clips of his selling of the war, accompanied by news clips of his intervention on behalf of halliburton contracts.

5. I am sure it is not blind. Look at Bush and SEC
He sold out before his stock tanked and 'forgot' to report to SEC and his father just happened to be in the WH. It is an old boy school :puke:

8. public sentiment is turning
were this to be a reality per Cheney - I doubt the public would accept the "they all do it." Esp with the public turning against the war. A replay of how hard he worked to sell it in the first place? Bet that would wake some folks up.

10. Blind? He knows how many halliburton option she has, and he
knows how far they were underwater (and thus value-less), and he knows H was losing a BILLION dollars a year for the two years before the run-up to Iraq, so.....what's the point of it being blind? All that dough (he said he was gonna' give it to charity---why not do it now?) is just waiting for him to remove the blindfold. Surprise! You're RICHER!

11. what does a "blind" trust mean exactly?
Someone is authorized to manage and make decisions on behalf of the trustee. Is that person or agancy bound legally not to advise the trustee of the status of the assests and prevent the person from participating in management decisions/ transactions? So is leaking info to the trustee illegal?

Gee, having money must be such a hassle! See, people are better off without it!

14. Good question. You know, a FOIA to the White House, or the SEC
might reveal the details of that "blind trust."

I don't think he has a privilege claim.

I'm just sayin'.
