How will the RW slander our 08 candidate?
I may make this a series of individual posts, but for now, let's lump the idea as a single post.

The question is: How will the RW slander our 08 candidate?

PLEASE note ..... not how YOU would say they're bad, but how the RW will say it to the sheeple. The purpose here is to start to think seriously about what the smear will be and how it gets countered. I'd also be interested to see against whom there might be the most (or least) chance to smear them.

For the sake of simplicity, let's limit the field a bit. If I have missed your candidate, lemme know. If there's enough interest I'll start another thread.

Let's consider these as the candidates:

Gore
Kerry
Clinton
Edwards
Clark
Warner (Mark - VA Governor)
Feingold

Yes, I know its too early for 08 candidate selection .... what it is NOT too early for is for the smearing to begin. Just as they did the last go-round, the shitstorm starts now .... and it **will** be televised.

1. Is the sky blue?
In other words... yes. It's the only (underline "only") way they know how to fight.

2. Simple
they will link to what they consider the "extreme left" and organizations such as MoveOn and ANSWER.

They will say they are obstructionists and have no clear agenda.

And they will play the abortion and gay cards, too.

16. That's true, but ........
They can multitask. And so can we. And we should.

My sense is that these potential candidates will - some alredy are - working to get Democrats elected in the 05 (yes, there is also an 05 cycle) and 06 cycles. It would be easy to test the smear waters even now. We need to anticipate and counter.

5. they take the candidate's greatest attribute and flip it:
such as Kerry's heroism, and slime it so that he looks like a fake and a traitor. Same with Max Cleland. Gore....honesty into a liar. Edwards....legal hero into ambulance chaser. Clark....war hero into war screw-up. Kkkarl rove does this over and over and it always seems to work.

8. I don't think there is a "most or least" chance.
The GOP will aggressively smear any candidate. And, as we saw with Kerry, it can work no matter how ridiculous the smear campaign is.

We've seen that the "Rove strategy" is to actually smear an opponent on their strongest points. Kerry was attacked exactly where he was strongest: on his war record. So, for any of our candidates, we can expect to be smeared with respect to whatever that candidate's strengths are.

Preferably, we attack first. Simply being the first to hit the media with an assertion carries a lot of weight. We also saw that with Kerry. He was immediately on the defensive with respect to his war record. Whether or not the assertion is true is a distant second.

11. They will be as ugly as always
Gore - They will replay the 'internet' stuff. They will have their ankle biters go out and make fun of the beard phase. Though it makes no sense, they will pretend that they are Washington outsiders and he is an 'insider'.

Kerry- They will again go after Theresa and also portray him as an elitist.

Clinton- Jesus...let me count the ways...They will portray her as a shrill, frigid, power hungry bitch. They will drag on every left over bad thread from her White House days. They will drag anything that a rightie can hate about Bill and use that. They will say this is just Bill's way around term limits. You name it, they will say it. This one gets attacked the most and the ugliest.

Edwards- Inexperienced TRIAL lawyer. Ambulance chaser.

Clark- No experience in elected office. And with his long history in the military, somebody will step up to tell tales. They did even when all he did was run for the nomination.

Warner (Mark - VA Governor)- I don't know enough about him.

Feingold- They will not openly attack that he is Jewish, but it will be in the back of everything they do. They will go after his divorce. And they will attack his voting record. I have no idea what his voting record is, but you can bet they will attack it.

17. Warner
Warner also has a law background, and they will accuse him of being a "carpetbagger" because he was born in Indiana.

At least Warner actually bothered to live in Virginia for awhile before becoming their Governor.

15. No matter who it is: Liberal, Liberal, Liberal.
They'll repeat is as many times as they have to, hoping it will stick. And also, best friend to Bill and/or Hillary CLINTON, (it is ALL their fault, after all) Ted Kennedy and hey, if the candidate isn't Kerry, Kerry--the Number One Liberal In The Senate.
