Redstate.org: Conservative Comments on Delay.
http://trevino.redstate.org/story/2005/9/28/154154/480

The pity is that Republicans who care more about their party than about the cult of personality attendant to its key figures have long warned of this day. We knew all along that Tom DeLay was a bully -- ask the Heritage Foundation about his penchant for petty grudges. We knew all along that he was, on a fundamental level, unprincipled -- ask him about the fat in the Federal budget. We knew all along that he was mostly interested in power for its own sake -- recall, please, that he sought a House rules change to protect his leadership position in this very circumstance. And we knew that if it came to an indictment, it would be the end.

Our task, then, was to make it the end for him, and not the Republican House majority or the conservative movement in power. In this, we failed. It is not a failure we were forced into: it is one we embraced, and hence one we deserve.

You knew all this, and yet you embraced him. Hmmm...

1. .
"You knew all this, and yet you embraced him. Hmmm..."

Exactly. If they knew Delay was this unprincipled, what does that say about the principles of conservative voters?

2. Hey, at least he's honest about the crimes.
And let's hope that he's right about the consequences.

5. Agreed.
And one of the reasons that I posted this is that it's refreshing (and rare) when conservatives publicly engage in some honest self-appraisal.

9. I Do, Too, But I Fear That Too Many Lame-Brained Campaign Managers...
I hope there will be lots of archival photos surfacing showing right wingie-dingie Banana Republican incumbents happily posing with the Bug man from Sugarland, but I fear that their gutless, lame-brained campaign managers will be too timid to make the best use of them.

6. It's unbelievable
How many of them have swallowed the party line about Earle being a partisan hack. The facts are clear (re: dems vs pukes, Earle has prosecuted) yet they continue to believe the talking point.

The absurdity of their position is nearly impossible to understand. They are definitely not part of the reality based community.

7. Let's check the scoreboard. Dems 11, Repubs 4
That should be easy enough for the kool-aid imbibers to comprehend, but you never know.
"Earle says local prosecution is fundamental and points out that 11 of the 15 politicians he has prosecuted over the years were Democrats."

14. They don't research the facts for themselves
They want to believe their people are true and right about everything so they just buy anything they tell.

8. They Embraced Him, And I Hope They Caught A Bad Dose!
Edited on Fri Sep-30-05 04:08 PM by VogonGlory
"It was not a failure were forced into: it one embraced, and hence one deserve."

I hope they caught something from being political bedmates with Tom DeLay, and I'm feeling spiteful enough to hope that it proves exquisitely more painful than a pre-penicillin dose of the clap.

:nopity:
