Its Time To Rally Behind Kerry
If history is any indicator.. winning or 2nd place in both NH and Iowa = we have our candidate. All democrats should form up now behind the nominee and give 100% support and stop the infighting. Kerry owns the nomination.

Congrats John Kerry!

23. It's time to rally behind Ed Muskie!
In 1972, he led the other candidates in IA and NH. `Didn't mean he won the nomination of course.

Same goes for Kerry.

Nice try, though!

43. Let's let the other primary's have their say
It is right to let two states decide who gets the nod. If we jump on the Kerry band wagon it's says to the rest of the country that their opinion doesn't matter.

30. Nice sentiment.. too early to call it for us.
I appreciate your call for unity. However, it's not over. Winning the first two primaries, in a very crowded field, doesn't reveal a clear winner to me. When the field winnows down, and Dean has no statistical chance of getting enough delegates, and he drops out, then I'll rally behind the obvious nominee. I still have problems with Kerry, there is no way I'm giving up yet. Sorry.

Iowa has opened the Democrats' races for president since 1972. At first, it was no big deal. Sen. Edmund Muskie of Maine beat Sen. George McGovern of South Dakota. But Muskie failed to meet expectations, and that hurt

http://www.cbc.ca/news/background/uselection2004/iowacaucuses.html
Then, in 1972, the Democratic party moved its Iowa caucuses to late January. That year, Senator Edmund Muskie of Maine was the early favourite, and he did win in Iowa with 35 per cent of the vote.

http://www.charlotte.com/mld/observer/news/7744147.htm
In 1972, South Dakota Sen. George McGovern finished second to Sen. Ed Muskie of Maine.

http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/election/iowa-newhampshire/iowa-past.html
Edmund Muskie 35.5%
George McGovern 22.6
Hubert Humphrey 1.6

I'm sure you can look up similar sources to learn that Muskie also won in NH.

That is my standard response to anyone who tells me to abandon my God given powers of reason and submit like some kind of docile child that needs to have their choices made for them. This is not directed at you personally, but rather at the idea you promote in this post. That other supporters should just give up their reason and follow like children.

It was my response to Mr. Gore and it is now my response to anyone now making this assertion as well.

I will continue to support my candidate, hopefully all the way into the White House. If the worst happens and someone else gets the nomination I will support that candidate AFTER the convention and not until then.

Kerry hasn't won a thing, and John Kerry will either be this year's ED MUSKIE, or he will be a part of Skull and Bones' preferred matchup or bonesman v. bonesman, and I am not going to unite behind that matchup...

Is there any chance of an agreement that certain candidates who lack anything around one digit support should call it a day?

LOL ! probably not.

Again, good luck... but I think kerry is clearly the man.
