OK, here's how I see the primaries going. Kerry vs the anti-Kerry

It's going to go down to Kerry vs the anti-Kerry. If Clark can get some mo going on Tuesday and Edwards doesn't win South Carolina (the way it looks today, SC could go Kerry), bingo, Wes is the anti-Kerry. If Edwards takes South Carolina, and Clark doesn't get a good enough head of steam, then Edwards is the anti-Kerry.
The wildcard scenario, is Clark and Edwards doing quite well, but not enough, in which case, we may well see a revitalized Howard Dean with momentum. Dean needs momentum, and if he can recover it, which I think is more possible than it seems in the light of recent events, then Dean is reborn as the anti-establishment insurgent in a head-to-head with JK.

they are contributing to Dean's campaign.

3. I think the nomination won't be decided until the convention

I think that Clark eventually will be selected.

5. Yeah but

I see it more as Clark, Edwards, and Kerry vs. Dean (and Kucinich, although he's not so much on the radar). All three are stronger on defense and security than Dean, but none of the three will invigorate the base to the extent that Dean could. Kerry right now looks like a winner. I personally like Edwards a bit more (although I like all of our candidates pretty well) but looking like a winner doesn't hurt Kerry any.

6. I could vote for Clark. Not Edwards.

But, I think that Dean has the only chance against the pro-war senator.

7. It doesn't look there are enough anti-war voters for Dean

especially considering that voters care about national security too (but not that much, relatively speaking) and Dean has articulated an argument about war that makes people wary of him with regard to security, and they see him as inexperienced.

The anti-Kerry will need to be someone who is either anti-war and looks really good on national security, or it will have to be someone who highights issues and characteristics Kerry is perceived as weaker on, like, ability to change things in DC, conviction, whether he's postitive enough.

The former describes Clark, but he has accumulating problems relating to his ability to campaign effectively. He took a big slide last week. The latter describes Dean, but he's also taking a slide.
