Easy way to throw cold water on the "Kerry is establishment" stuff
He was in the running for VP with Gore, and he got passed over. Now, you may be saying to yourself 'that's because righteous and populist Gore rejected the sinister S&B Kerry'. But then you'd have to forget that Gore picked Lieberman, who is MUCH more in line with DLC "third way" thinking than the quite liberal Kerry. Being from Connecticut, the only substantial difference is that Joe is much more moderate than Kerry.

Might the establishment prefer Kerry over Dean? I won't argue with you there. But it isn't because Kerry is more or less liberal than Dean (IMO he's more liberal), it's because Dean and the DLC don't like each other. The DLC put out some downright goofy memos about how Dean was bad because he was rallying the base (i.e. their candidates weren't catching fire), and Dean rightly said that was a load of crap. I'm paraphrasing there. :)

Anyway, that's why I don't really see a Kerry-DLC conspiracy. He wasn't really popular with the establishment Dems, and his stances are pretty far off from the DLC's.

1. No. Gore only picked Lieberman to counter the Clinton = bad meme.
He passed on Kerry for someone who had more high morals. That was Lieberman. It was a stupid move, but so would be picking Kerry as VP.

4. Why even bother?

The "Kerry is establishment" meme is meant to hurt him in the primary season, and it obviously hasn't hurt him.

Let them say "Kerry is establishment". I don't think it is true but it will only help him in the GE to have that spread around.

5. Why does it matter? Noone should be excluded because he
was born with a silver spoon, only if he uses that spoon to gag everyone who disagrees with him.

7. Gore is a million times more establishment than Kerry ever was
Al is up to his ass in relationships with big oil interests and he was born into the conservative wing of the democratic party.

Kerry on the other hand, was viewed much like Wellstone was in the senate for many many years, a real hippy turned politician type, the kind who wasn't "supposed" to get into a position of power
