Carl Bernstein---excellent tonight on Rita Cosby, whom I never have
Edited on Thu Oct-27-05 08:21 PM by Gloria
watched, but got to by accident tonight.

He said the important thing about this investigation is that it the first time the door is opening on how this White House operates. He says that indictments or no, he expects hearings and investigations in Congress. He says the coverup has occurred and whole groups of questions about this President's honesty and comptetence is now open, and the press is now looking at them in ways they may not have been able to before this.

My knee jerk reaction was...oh, he's letting off the press...but then, you have to remember what Dan Rather said in Europe about getting "ringed," etc. etc. (is that the term he used or was it "collared"-I forget)

True to form for Rita, I guess...we follow with G. Gordon Libby shilling
with fond memories of his own Watergate grand jury experiences and talking about "call girls" and the DNC...

Bernstein, already off air, must have gotten pissed, because Cosby said he wanted to respond to the "call girl" comments...they had to go to a break so that they could get Bernstein back....

1. Bernstein said the call girl business was "utter nonsense" ...
an unprecedented campaign and obstruction of justice by the President of the US...it exploded beyond this into what John Mitchel called the "White House" horrors...

Bernstein then slammed Liddy:

"AND HOPEFULLY, NO MEN LIKE MR. LIDDY WILL EVER WORK FOR A PRESIDENT OF THE US. AGAIN"

Liddy he won a case that said the call girl thing was true....and Bernstein got the last word...saying he was "recasting history."

4. Good for Carl. His old buddy Woodward stunk it up on Larry King tonight.

Woodward was on with Sen. Dodd, Michael Isikoff, Sen. Graham and David Gergen. Woodward was the WH mouthpiece on the show. He doesn't think Plame's outing was all that important. Said that this case is about idle gossip. Claims that the CIA damage report said nothing was compromised. Now, from what I've heard, nobody can find out a thing about the CIA damage report. From what I've heard, if the damage report is clean it's sent over to the Senate Intelligence Committee. No report was sent to the Committee regarding Plame. Larry Wilson has talked about this.

Woodward is in bed with Bush and Rove and Cheney. He mentioned that he's currently writing a book about the second term. What a wash-out. I'm so glad that Mark Felt's family and Vanity Fair scooped him on the Deep Throat revelation.

5. The term Rather used was "necklaced" IIRC
it refers to a punichment widely practiced in South Africa during the last days of apartheid where an enemy was tied up and a flaming car tire dumped around his neck.
