Anyone else feel a kind of sadness today about the primaries?

I mean, what with Dean's many problems, and Kucinich (the truest Dem out there) barely scraping by, and Kerry winning big (for reasons that escape me, honestly)...it just all seems strange to me...

And now the campaigns go into national campaign mode, with less one-on one-contact with voters, and TV ads, and speeches given quickly, close to airports, before they fly off to the next stop.

It almost seems like a promise was not full-filled...

Beyond that I can't put it into words...

the further to the left one is doesn't make them a truer or better democrat

and I have never disliked a democrat more than Howard Dean, so I couldn't be more delighted at his plummeting campaign. The great landslide loser scare that was Howard Dean will soon, hopefully be over,

I see several guys putting forth their best face to the voters of my party. They are each laying out the case for progressive change in this country. At least four different candidates have been national frontrunners, so we've had the opportunity to look at each in depth.

We will need 50 million votes to win the presidency. Candidates can't do that one-to-one. But six weeks of making the case against Bush will do wonders for our support among the 10 million swing voters who will decide this election, and our winner will be stronger because of it.

With the corp. media claiming Dean is dead, the turnout may drop off. I prefer Wesley Clark. But a good, lengthy fight may be what we need to attract more media attention to our party, and to Bush's flaws.

13. It's been exciting, fun, weird, unpredictable, funny, sad...iow: Democracy

I've been loving this. This whole race has totally reaffirmed my faith in democracy. Maybe it's "democrazy" but goddammit it's gonna be a little bit nutz when 300 million people have their say. I'm cool with whatever happens. I'll work my ass off for our nominee, but I'm a firm believer in people power once again. For me, it's been nothing but good.

25. Something To Think About

A rough and tumble primary season will pay off in the long run. An easy and early nominee would produce a lazy nominee. It's happened time and time again. On the other hand, (especially to Dean supporters):

28. I'll admit. My enthusiasm in politics is having a bad day.

I was never involved in politics before (aside from voting) because I was offended by the behavior of the Democratic party. I'm sure as hell not voting Republican, but how do you get enthusiastic about some guy who votes with the Republicans most of the time?


I'm not giving up. I supported Dean for certain reasons and those reasons haven't changed. Neither has he.

29. Not really; primaries are about storylines

And this one has a lot.

Dean creating a "movement."
Kerry coming back from the dead.
Clark coming out of nowhere to be a factor.
Edwards emerging as a star.
Lieberman representing the last gasp of "Conservative Democrats."
Gephardt fading off into the sunset.
Not to mention the Gore/Clinton/Clinton/McAullife sniping in the background.

From a pure storyline point it's been good.

And the turnout has been terrific. If Dean, Clark, Sharpton, and Kucinich win nothing, they have involved people who do top typically get involved in Demcoratic primaries. This can only be a good thing.

30. I am really saddened by the apparent organizational mess

in the Dean campaign, because I think he's a decent guy and he has done more to mobilize people to resist * than anyone else. It is important that all candidates stay in as long as the people want to hear what they have to say, and unfortunate that management problems might prevent that. However, Clinton showed that you can come back time and again. And NOTHING will take away the motivation of the huge numbers of people who are no longer willing to accept the direction *'s cabal is taking this country. If they can't rally around one candidate, they will find another, but this is NOT over!

32. I am hoping

that things keep going. I will be very sad if we end up with an early nominee. This idea of having all these guys out there fighting is a good one IMO. More total coverage in the long run and even if the messages differ they are still all against Bush*. The longer we have this the better off we will be. I am very uncertain about the idea that we need a nominee quickly, I say let them all run and run and run.
