Will Cheney run in '08?
He was kind of longwinded in his speech today. Really went after key Democrats.

What if he does? Could we be possibly stuck with this regime for additional years?

1. He won't run because he knows he's toast in the eyes of the
American people.

3. He's old, he's sick and people hate his guts. Sounds like a job
for Karl Rove and Diebold.

10. He has the circulatory system of a 90 year-old. I can't use the
word "heart" with reference to him. No Doctor has the guts to tell him he'd be healthier if he just didn't LIE SO FUCKING MUCH.

19. That pretty funny. The only exercise he get is counting his money
that he converted to gold in 30 lbs. bricks.

22. Doubt he could lift a 30 pound brick. I think he had it made into
a car like Goldfinger did and just has someone drive it past him at an undisclosed location once in a while.

4. I wish--but he won't
not popular with the electorate and bad health. My guess is that we will be up against McCain--and that scares me.

6. I share the above sentiments, but why is he rolled out to launch a
major high-profile salvo when they have their backs to the wall?

Do they think he is a valuable spokesperson?

17. That's what I keep forseeing.
Hell help us all. He's just as disgusting as Bush except less drunk and not quite as stupid. His face makes me want to :puke: and I've found that sometimes you damn well can TOO tell things about people by looking at them. Never once have I encountered someone that John-Travoltas me and not later had events back up my initial compass-sense of terrible, terrible character.

16. He won't run - and it will be wide open
Cheney's not going to run.

And that means, for the first time in 40 years, we will have a presidential election in which there is no incumbent president or vice president (and, if you were to count Nixon as an "incumbent" in '68 by virtue of the fact that he used to be VP, you'd have to go back 56 years).

Take a look at it:

1952: EISENHOWER over Stevenson

1956: EISENHOWER (i) over Stevenson

1960: KENNEDY over Nixon (i)

1964: JOHNSON (i) over Goldwater

1968: NIXON (i*) over Humphrey

1972: NIXON (i) over McGovern

1976: CARTER over Ford (i)

1980: REAGAN over Carter (i)

1984: REAGAN (i) over Mondale

1988: BUSH (i) over Dukakis

1992: CLINTON over Bush (i)

1996: CLINTON (i) over Dole

2000: BUSH over Gore (i)

2004: BUSH (i) over Kerry

Both primaries are going to be wide open, and you can bet that both the Freepers and us DUers will be fighting for the proverbial "souls" of the two parties. I think this is a good thing -- generally, an incumbent candidate "moderates" the party (e.g., Bradley was to the left of Gore, Buchanan to the right of Bush, etc.). In the absence of an incumbent, I think you could have a good, dyed-in-the-wool liberal Democrat (say Feingold) running against a whackjob Republican (like Mark Sanford). Granted, there will be some moderates (M. Warner, McCain) in both mixes, and the Hillary factor could be called "incumbency," but it's going to be one hell of an election.

21. Let's hope he does
Repubs give the nomination based on seniority, witness Dole, so Cheney would have it handed to him. ANd we would trounce him with almost anybody we ran.

But he won't run. He knows he's unelectable.
