New Iraq Report: US/UK oil scheme exposed

It's the oil, stupid.

Blair and Bush had it figured out before they ever went into Iraq. Now it is about to happen, as documented in a new report released yesterday.(Steven D diaried on this just before me): the prototypical colonial exploitation, leveraged in this case by destroying so much of Iraq and not rebuilding it. Because of this, the Iraqis "don't have enough money" to develop their own oil production, so "we'll just have to do it for them," meanwhile ripping off a couple hundred billion in profits. That's it, folks. You knew there was a reason for invasion besides the pathetic Doug Feith's ignorance. Two hundred billion for the transnational oil companies. Oh, yes, sorry about your kids.

Read about it, if you are sitting down, below the fold.

snip...

Earlier this year a BBC Newsnight report claimed to have uncovered documents showing the Bush administration made plans to secure Iraqi oil even before the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the US. Based on its analysis of PSAs in seven countries, it said multinationals would seek rates of return on their investment from 42 to 162 per cent, far in excess of typical 12 per cent rate.

1. Honestly, I wish I still had the capacity ...
... to be shocked by this kind of thing. Nowadays, no matter how outrageous a newly-explosed fact is, we all yawn and say, "Yeah, saw THAT coming."

Who was it who said, "Democracy doesn't come cheap"? Now the Iraqis are about to find out just how expensive BU$HCO's 'spreading of democracy' really is.

3. So true.....

As we near Peak Oil, Iraq has become more and more important. Because that is where the remaining oil is! At first we tried to prop up Sadaam when it was in our interests. Then we tried to maniplulate all of the governments in the region to serve our oil interests. We just call this process "exporting democracy".

Oh....love your icon. *wink*

6. Sad, but true
Edited on Tue Nov-22-05 05:47 PM by Carla in Ca
This is one example of how Iraq is NOT like Viet Nam. Our dear wingnut-in-chief will not leave empty handed. This is, of course, what we have known all along. But hopefully it will finally start to resonate with the ones who still think it is to spread democracy. God, I get so sick and tired of hearing that bogus bull!

This needs to be a 'light bulb' moment for the idiots who have put this moran on a pedestal. Wake up! Why do you think he keeps saying 'stay the course'? Why do you think he doesn't care how many have been killed and wounded? Why do you think the billions for the rebuilding of Iraq went missing? Wake up!

2. when chimpenator announced his illegal invasion, the first words
out of his mouth were about not touching the oil wells.

The first words. I think that says it all.

9. Go CITGO!
Although the nationside refineries and distribution are gouging us as much as the aforementioned... we know this oil isn't tainted by blood.

Don't forget all the mula that they had earmarked for reconstruction and military contracts.... ;)

16. Amen, 0007
Our kids are dying, being grievously wounded. Iraqi people are as well. Three more soldiers were killed today. It just goes on and on and on.
All this death and destruction so the little man could finally find some oil. He couldn't find it in Texas. Pathetic.

17. Cheney's secret energy meetings, that's
where they planned it all, the invasion of Iraq, they had maps of Iraq's oil-fields there, and now we know that all those Oil execs were there. They lied about that last week, because if we ever get to see those memos (which Cheney has fought so hard to hide) the country, once and for all, will see that this war in Iraq was planned long, before 9/11 ~ it was all a big lie, all for profit.

As someone else said, 'sorry about the kids' ~

18. Bingo..........
What I have believed all along also. The reasons they can't let anyone know who or what was discussed. This is the real smoking gun, the fact that these energy meetings were to discuss war and oil.

19. Blood for oil, a fair exchange in BushWorld.

"The terrorists want to control the oil. Our way of life will be at risk". George W. Bush (Nov. 2005)

Bush Regime Iraq Successes

1. Saddam will no longer sell Iraqi oil via the Euro.

2, A military foothold in the ME. Other than Saudi Arabia.

3, No countries will be able to buy Iraqi oil that the U.S. disapproves of.

4. The Multi-Intl. Oil Corps are reaping great profits.

5. The Military Industrial Complex is a booming Industry.

“We live a lie when we fail to hold leaders accountable for their lies. By not calling now for impeachment, we are saying that we condone hypocrisy, pseudo-democracy, and murdering thousands of Americans and Iraqis for strategic control of energy resources that we have no right to. Patriotism demands that we insist on the ideals of democracy, not that we support the "leaders" who cynically destroy them.”
Robert Shetterly

That is why the oil execs were not put under oath last week. Will the Dems make it an issue to get them back before the committee?

22. I hate to say it but Americans knew we were going there for the oil.
They just bought the line that it would be a cake walk. I also think that these madmen in office and the Repugs in general really believe they are doing the right thing.

They know oil has peaked and they are trying to secure the remaining reserves to buy us as much time as possible.

Once people figured out that it was not a cake walk and that they were getting screwed (big oil is making record profits and prices are skyrocketing) they changed their minds. People now realize that oil prices will not come down just because we control the Iraqi oil fields. They finally see how they got bamboozled and conned. They paid for the war but the oil companies will reap the benefits.

Maybe I'm a cynic but, I really don't believe Americans are that naive. At least they've finally woken up and can see the writing on the wall.
