Kerry Raises $500,000 Online in Two Days

WASHINGTON - John Kerry (news - web sites)'s front-runner status is helping his fund raising take off while former Democratic leader Howard Dean (news - web sites)'s once-record treasury has dwindled to around $5 million, campaign officials said Thursday.


One source directly familiar with Dean's finances, who spoke only on condition of anonymity, said Dean had that much on hand after all bills were paid. A second source, a senior Dean campaign official, confirmed that Dean's cash on hand had fallen to seven figures after raising a Democratic record $41 million last year.


Contributions slowed dramatically in the hours after Dean replaced campaign manager Joe Trippi on Wednesday, but Dean supporters were heartened by a fund-raising pickup on Thursday. His Web site showed he was raising money at a clip of about $10,000 per hour, with more than $1 million in online donations since last Saturday.


When asked whether there would be layoffs as Dean looks to cut costs, a senior official said Dean was serious when he said the campaign would be leaner. The official said that rather than wholesale staff cuts, the campaign would reduce or shift staff as it makes decisions about which primary states to compete in.

I just saw on FOX that Wes raised $14.5 million in 2003 alone. Or or those figures just for 2004? God I"m tired.

These are official numbers updated only when they the law requires a filing. The main purpose I provided these websites is so that you can specifically go through every candidate and find out who supported them or how they spent their money... clues that provide insight in how to advocate your candidate, or think of rebuttals to weaknesses that you spot.

Ex...
Bush's geographic contributions- you'll see that alot comes out of VA area... defense contractors.... NY comes in second.. a surprise to many but wall street put alot into his race this time. Switching to contributions you'll see that Merrill Lynch is the largest contributor at about $370,000.

Kerry--- on geographic totals it looks more normal with most coming out of Boston/New York. If you go to contributions by sector you'll see that trial lawyers and finance are the two biggest industries that supported him. Go to his expenditures and you'll see that he spent alot at 1-800-FLOWERS, and bought drinks at 7-11 for his volunteers humanizing and adding a personal touch to his campaign.

The same goes for the other candidates... you'll notice with dean the numbers don't spike dramatically for any sector except ideology. You'll see a huge amount of retired ppl donate also. You can also go to his expenditures and see what states he's concentrating on at that time.

This is crap!! So, not only are our candidates being snubbed by the media; they're now going to face more financial issues due to the federal matching funds being short. (Gotta wonder if some Bush-admin official had an effect on this.)

The departures of Dean, Kerry and President Bush (news - web sites) from the taxpayer-financed program left it flush enough to give participants their full monthly payment when the first checks went out in early January. But with only a month to replenish itself from tax returns, the program now has only enough cash to give them roughly 43 cents to 45 cents of each dollar they're entitled to when their second checks go out Monday.

Before word of the shortfall, Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich (news - web sites) had been expecting $2.4 million in his February check; Wesley Clark (news - web sites), $1.4 million; Joe Lieberman (news - web sites), about $389,000; and John Edwards (news - web sites), about $302,000.

Separately, be sure to check the "$3 matching funds" box on your income tax return if your candidate used matching funds.

Under the program, the government matches the first $250 of each private donation, up to about $18.7 million per candidate. Taxpayers fund the program by checking a box on their income-tax returns to direct $3 to it at no cost to themselves.

The people running his campaign are doing very well with their budget it seems. They knew not to blow too much in NH and all the while they were laying the ground work in the Feb. 3rd states.
