OK: Kerry, Clark take lead in state poll

Front-runner Sen. John Kerry and retired Army Gen. Wesley Clark are the favorites among Oklahoma Democrats likely to vote in next week's presidential primary, a new opinion poll shows. However, more than a third of those polled said they were undecided.

The poll, commissioned by The Oklahoman, was taken the night after Kerry, a U.S. senator from Massachusetts, won a highly publicized victory in Tuesday's New Hampshire primary. It showed Kerry leading Clark in Oklahoma, 20 percent to 18 percent. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 5.6 percent. The poll showed Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina coming in third with 12.7 percent of expected votes. None of the other candidates received more than 6 percent.

Copeland said the results also are a reminder that even though Oklahoma is "a moderate, even a conservative state, there is a very sizable block of liberal Democratic voters." The results also show that some of the candidates who are looking for help in Oklahoma "are in serious trouble," he said.

Copeland said he suspects a lot of the support for candidates is soft and that "a lot of Oklahoma Democrats would be satisfied with several candidates."

I think most Democrats feel the same... it's the "my guy or nobody" attitude that alienates them from other candidates.

it is clearly felt by a tiny, insignificant minority of Democrats. The overwhelming majority of the party is looking forward to uniting behind a candidate and taking the White House.

Of course, the Zogby is a three day poll so 1/3 of the sample was taken before Kerry's victory and Clark's distant third place finish in New Hampshire.

13. The Daily Oklahoman is probably more right-wing

than the Washington Times. I'd never believe any poll from them.
