Poll question: Tell Me Your True Feelings

Is John Kerry the frontrunner right now because the grassroots Democrats, the 25% of the party that's actually paying attention, saw that he is the most qualified candidate.

Or

Is John Kerry the frontrunner because the media/establishment/Skull & Bones/Barney the dinosaur/Bill Clinton overlords are pulling the strings on this primary.


And if you believe the answer to be the latter. Then answer me this question...

Q: If the media/establishment dems all control the primary anyway. And it was rigged against the other candidates. Then why did Howard Dean, Wesley Clark, John Edwards, ect, even bother to run?

Surely, they, being a lot closer to the inner workings of the Democratic Party than we mere Internet observors, knew that the game was rigged. They must have known that they had no shot because "THEY" want Kerry - whoever "THEY" are.

So which is it.

Did Kerry win on his own or did Dean lay down for him?

From season to season they are all growing at different rates. Two trees are the tallest of the bunch but because they are so tall you can't effectively measure their heights to know which is taller than the other. One day, one of those trees has fallen over. A little bit of rot, high winds, and someone sawing at it knocked it over. Now it is clear which tree is tallest.

Your poll leaves out the most obvious reason. Kerry re-engaged himself into the campaign. Dean had spent weeks taking body blows from the 8 other campaigns and the media. Dean's lackluster showing in Iowa, whether due to dirty tricks or not getting the right people to the caucus frightened a lot of people who thought there were jumping on the winning bandwagon.

Now people are jumping to the the candidate they think is more likely to win. These people are fickle. I think Dean can win back a lot of their support by the time the primaries are over.

And now he's taking his "national campaign" state-shopping to whatever state he believes will be close enough for him to squeak out a victory.

His message is powerful. His supporters are loyal.

And he is still pulling in money. It may have slowed (people like to back known winners, only investors take a look at longshots) but the donations are still coming in.

He is doing what he needs to do to get past the next few weeks until he can reach some delegate rich states that he has already done some groundwork in.

Blind optimism? No, just a little myopic optimism.

Besides, I know what is going on here is more than getting one person elected and I like the direction it is moving in and I want to do everything I can to make sure THAT goal isn't lost in the election madness.

20. On his own merit

First - I'm a Clark supporter. Okay, as for Kerry, when I saw the rally in Iowa where he was surprised by the presence of the veteran whose life he saved in SE Asia, I knew he had Iowa in the bag. The man spoke saying he was a registered Repub but that he was voting for Kerry. From there on, it was all uphill and fast. Kerry seemed much more relaxed and stopped speaking as if he had just come down from the mountain with "The Tablets". The way he was relating to people was so much more comfortable that I wasn't surprised at how well he did both in Iowa and then in New Hampshire.

Btw, I don't believe that Dean would know how to lay down for another candidate. He appears way to loyal to his supporters who have worked so hard. No way would he step aside right now. I hope he can and does continue all the way to the convention. I hope they all do and keep hammering at the shrub with all those voices.

Negative coverage of Dean 24/7 in the media, plus some organization (signs point to Kerry) robo-calling and harassing Dean supporters while pretending to be DFA (which resulted in only 1/3rd of his identified supporters showing up at the caucuses), plus republican linked groups running negative ads against Dean had nothing to do with Dean's decline within just two weeks, I ain't buying it. I'm not that fucking niave.

However, the media was ass-kissing Dean 24/7 until the meltdown after the Iowa surprise. Then, he was dissed and made fun of by all the late-night talk show hosts. What does he do? He forces Trippi out.

And where you saw ass-kissing, we the Dean supporters saw microscopes digging for flaws. Remember 'Angry Dean?' Remember 'Too Liberal?' Remember 'Too Conservative?' Remember when Saddam's stature in Baghdad was pulled down and Blitzer called the Dean campaign to ask if they were pulling out of the election? Remember when Saddam was captured and everyone said Dean was done? Remember the phoney hysterics over his confederate flag remark?

I could go on, but I think the point is clear. There wasn't much ass kissing going on from our perspective.
