Affirmative action will be protected, Clark pledges
Democratic presidential candidate Wesley Clark pledged during a rally Friday in Tulsa's Greenwood District to protect affirmative action. "I believe in the program because I've witnessed the positive results firsthand during my military career," the retired four-star Army general told the cheering crowd of about 250 people at Mount Zion Baptist Church.

The historic black church also was the site of a rally earlier this week by U.S. Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina, one of Clark's main rivals for Oklahoma's 47 delegates in Tuesday's Democratic primary election. Clark's appearance during his third-straight day of campaigning in the state featured American Indian dancers, Hispanic music and a barbecue buffet.

"Every person, every race, every sex, every creed. We need to have leadership that pulls us together, not that sets us apart. "George W. Bush is the most polarizing leader in modern history, and that's why I'm running for president." Joining the candidate on stage were about a half-dozen black pastors from Oklahoma who have endorsed Clark's campaign.

"I support the general because I know he has what it takes to heal the wounds of this country," McCutcheon said. "I will protect affirmative action and I will continue it as president of the United States." Mark Thomas, 43, traveled from his home in Muskogee to meet Clark. "He's authentic," Thomas said. "I believe what he says comes from the heart. It's not just a politician talking." Tulsan Lavonna Carter, 38, said Clark has demonstrated what he can do for America's black population. "He will give everyone a chance," she said. "Clark wants us all to be one."

woo too much because many minorities endorsed him quite early including Andrew Young, Charlie Rangel and Mary Frances Berry.

3. Unlike the Daily Oklahoman

the paper out of Oklahoma City, the Tulsa World is a tad more fair. The Oklahoman, (some Kerry people were using yesterday) is more right wing than the Washington Times.
