Kerry Blasts Bush, Runs Strong in Missouri

Running strong in Missouri, the prize in next week's seven Democratic state contests, U.S. Sen. John Kerry blasted President Bush on Saturday for a "reckless and ideological" foreign policy and vowed to turn him from office. Kerry took his energized campaign to the pivotal Midwest with the latest polls giving him a whopping lead in Missouri three days before a crucial round of voting. He was met by a crowd of about 1,000 supporters who roared approval as he blasted Bush.

"I think they can hear you all the way in (White House adviser) Karl Rove's office. ... They hear us coming," Kerry cried. "They are scared. They are worried."

The Kerry camp would not discuss the prospects of a seven-state sweep on Tuesday, not wanting to raise expectations. However, aides were beginning to look past Tuesday's voting and considering stops in Michigan or Washington state, which marked the next round in the voting.

1. My prediction: Kerry takes six of the seven races on 2/3

Inlcuding South Carolina. Edwards will quit, and Kerry will crush Dean on Super Tuesday.

2. Missouri will be close

The cities are going for him, but the rural area where I live is all Edwards. I suspect to see some other rural voters disperse a little. We voted on a Conceal\Carry ballot issue a few years ago, and it was a close vote. The rural dems like their guns. I think Edwards is a little more palatable for those voters. Southeast MO is deep south. I think a lot of them might go for Edwards.
It's going to be very tight.

"Southeast MO is deep south." I believe it's true of all of southern MO. I live in St Louis, have relatives in the Southeastern part and the Southwestern part MO and yes it's the south. I was remarking to someone the other day that once you get about 20 miles south of St Louis in all directions, "It's the South, Baby!" :hi: from MO!

6. I was born and raised in the south. I have lived in both the

Missouri and Arkansas Ozarks. I have also lived in Joplin, Kansas City and Nevada, Missouri. Let me assure you none of those places are remotely like the south!!!

8. MO has a little of everything

There are influences from all directions. Up north, they grow corn, in the boot heel they grow cotton. STL is an eastern city, KC is a midwestern industrial city. Then there's the ultimate anamoly- my little liberal haven (Columbia) right in the middle of the state.
I have heard interesting commentary from sociologists- 1.MO is the "northernmost southern state." 2.It is the most culturally representative state in the country because there are subsets of each regional culture here.
It's no wonder we're a bellweather state.

5. Talk about farm issues

Talk about Kerry's work on getting money to family farms instead of agri-business. Remind them that Massachusetts has farms too, not like MO, but still. And his support of using biomass and other technologies that will use farming to create new energies. Like the soy oil on railroads.

And Democrats have no desire to take away guns. The one that always works for me is that there are only 19 guns on the banned list and over 600 models left to choose from. Banning 19 of the guns that kids choose to commit crimes isn't that unreasonable. And gun responsibility, trigger locks and background checks. Simplify.

My family is in St. Louis and my grandfather was a farmer around Bowling Green. And I hate to say it, but I kind of thought Kerry's remarks on Affirmative Action, although misconstrued, might make some of these white males think twice about him. Sad, isn't it?

9. Didn't work for Carnahan

The photo op with guns didn't win them over for Jean Carnahan. Kerry can keep dreaming.
Edwards doesn't have a loooooong history of being pro gun control for anyone to flaunt.

Maybe it won't win him a lot of fans at DU, but Kerry is no wimp. This is a man who eats doves.

4. it was great

I was at the Kansas City event this morning, and it was a fantastic crowd (and smart of the Kerry folks to hold it at Harry Truman's old haunt, the Muehlebach hotel). Lots of good Missouri Democrats.

There was an absolutely MASSIVE roar from the crowd when he did his standard mention of John Ashcroft just to confirm that Missourians, too, hate him.

I stood about seven feet in front of him as he spoke, and got to shake his hand after.

Edwards is going to be here early tonight, so we'll be going to midtown to see him. I passed by a very large Dean rally on the Plaza driving home, it's a shame that Dean hasn't been scheduled here before the primary (at least, he wasn't last time I looked). Looks like he has a ton of volunteers here.
