Good job, Bill Richardson: "The next president of the United States..."

(01/31/04) New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson and U.S. Sen. John Edwards swapped praise Saturday at an Edwards' campaign event in the upcoming caucus state.
"Are you ready for the next president?" Richard asked a crowd of about 350 that came to see Edwards at a community center in Albuquerque.

"This candidate, of all the presidential candidates, has made the most visits to our state," said Richardson, who is officially neutral. "Senator, you momentum here is incredible. You can see it here in the heart of New Mexico."

Richardson has kind things to say about other candidates that have visited as well in advance of Tuesday's caucuses.

"You can feel the momentum of Senator Kerry, can't you?" Richardson reportedly said at a rally Friday for U.S. Sen. John Kerry.

Personally I think a Kerry-Richardson, Edwards-Richardson ticket would both be unstoppable.

4. I agree; Kerry/Richardson would be great

A southwestern strategy that includes taking New Mexico, Arizona, and Nevada would make our nominee almost unbeatable if we can hold the states that Gore won.

5. Richardson has been working for a VP slot

ever since he left the Clinton Admin. He is hispanic, very intelligent, and had the N Koreans meet w/him in Santa Fe for a meal oof trout baked in adobe during the N Korean crisis. Apparently they were not too fond of the trout, but really enjoyed the cigars (according to a waitress I spoke with).


He would certainly bring in the hispanic votes.

I could see Richardson getting it if the Dems plan eventually (depending on how the primaries in the South go) to say "forget the 'Southern Strategy', we're gonna go with the 'West/Southwest Strategy'"

He said he was going to stay Governor and wouldn't take a VP nod.

Now, that being said, I wouldn't rule out a "change of heart."

That's a "change of heart" that might mean something. Until then, Richardson continues to be a moral coward.

and really believed him, but he should be free to change his mind. He shouldn't be forced to answer such a question when he really hadn't been asked yet. Wolf always asks inappropriate questions like that. He is such a dangerous JERK.

12. Why should Richardson take VP?

From his standpoint, it'd be better to wait until 2008 or 2012 and run as a governor from the populous Southwest, rather than become a Vice President. Governors have better chances than Vice Presidents.

13. Richardson is definitely the best choice for VP

no matter who the nominee is.

While not from the old south, he would excite the growing Hispanic populations in several southern states, lock up NM, quell any repub designs on CA, and make us competitive in Colorado and Arizona, too.

Of course he said he's not interested and wouldn't take the job. EVERYONE says that. Look through history: you won't find a single VP who said he WOULD accept it before it was actually offered.
