MAthews on Today-~"15 years ago the Republican experts warned us.."
Chris Mathews was on the Today Show this morning.

Lauer lead off with W's poll numbers and how back in January Bush's numbers were rising (to 42%) but now they are at a dismal low of 34% according to a CBS News poll. Chris why is that?

Mathews said that the President doesn't seem to be even watching TV. Mathews never said "bubble" or "disconnected" but he did say that this White House needs to revamp and get a 24 hour a day team in there to keep the President aware of what is going on. I guess Chris has forgotten how proud W&Co. are that they only work 8 to 5 so everyone can have family time.

Mathews also said that some people say Karzai in Afghanistan really only rules Kabul and that the rest of the country is wide open and lawless. I guess Mathews forgot that that has been the situation for about 1,000 years there.

Mathews suddenly remembered that (close quote-I find a link or video as it is available):

"15 years ago James Baker then Secretary of State Gen. Brent Skowcroft and even the first President Bush the REPUBLICAN EXPERTS warned us that this would happen if we went into Iraq"
speaking of civil war.

Glad you brought it up in such a timely manner there buddy.

1. Thanks for the post.
Summaries are great for those of us who can't catch the show.

2. Jim Baker could give two craps about a Bush legacy.
He's probably more concerned that Cheney's gun accident finally connected the good ole boy network to him through family. Because now for the rest of us, it's personal.

3. He brought it up at the optimal moment.
He needed a reason to explain Bush's low poll numbers. Whereas the decision to go to war with Iraq didn't need any reasons at all. Or it needed any reason someone could make up.

4. I saw that this morning. How can anyone take Mathews seriously?
Republican experts warned Bush years ago,blah,blah,blah-we told you so.
What about all those Democrats that warned Bush again and again about this action and getting it right. If I recall, John Kerry has mentioned these things many times along with Dean and Murtha too.
Oh well, Mathews brother is running for LT. Governor in PA as a Repub so he will not be saying anything positive about Dem's for a long time.

5. I don't have any idea how anyone could take him seriously
I never have but I tthought that this sounded like a talking point and wanted to post it.

Mathews is ridiculous. He compared Bush to Atticus Finch just a few days ago (the racism of the opposition to the port deal and how W stood up to it)

9. Oh yeah, they need a "team"
To keep that idiot in the Oval Office aware of what is going on. Do you think Bill Clinton needed a team to keep him advised of what is going on? Does Tweety even realize how ridiculous that sounds?

10. Don't forget one thing about Tweety ...
He's a wobbly, bobbly mess of an identity crisis these days ... but, and people either forgot this or didn't know it ... Matthews was against going into Iraq. He wrote a big column in the San Francisco paper saying that this would probably lead to a complete disaster.

He came on board after the war began -- as did all the media. But, he was against going it. When they fired Phil Donahue at MSNBC, that must have grabbed Tweety's attention.

11. Yeah, Tweety's a tower of gelatinous integrity
Whenever Tweety starts wavering in his support for the Murdering Chucklehead, he just pops the tape of Chimpy strutting across the deck of the Abraham Lincoln, and all is well again in Tweety's world.
