ORLANDO, Fla. -- Orlando City Commissioner and former Mayor Ernest Page surrendered to deputies Wednesday night to face two felony charges of bribery and improperly exerting his position's influence.
....
The charges against Page stem from a phone call he made in which he allegedly used his political position to threaten to block an Orlando development unless the nonprofit group Page was part of was involved in the deal.
In the phone call made to Tampa nonprofit leader Al Pina, Page was heard warning that the city would not be involved with his project.
Page's recording said, "In other words, the project is dead if you don't talk to me quick," Local 6 News reported earlier this week.
Page has not denied that he left the threatening message. He said he made it as a civilian, not an elected official, Local 6 News reported.
"If the person knows he is speaking to a commissioner and the commissioner is talking about using his power to affect or change an act, that should be sufficient," state attorney Lawson Lamar said
