Democratic Nightmare - Strong Black Republican Candidates

They're all popular, conservative, Republican and black. And just thinking of their candidacies must give Democrats the shivers, cause them to get little if any sleep at night and make them angry that these blacks had the nerve to leave the plantation without permission. Of course, I'm talking about the candidacy of former Detroit City Councilman Keith Butler who is in the running for the U.S. Senate seat from the state of Michigan. Current Ohio Secretary of State and former Mayor of Cincinatti Kenneth Blackwell is running for the Gubenatorial seat in Ohio. Michael Steele is currently Mariyland's Lieutenant Governor and he's seeking the U.S. Senate seat from the state of the Terrapins. And finally former Pittsburgh Steelers star wide receiver and long time sports reporter for ABC television, Lynn Swann is trying to take Ed Rendell's job as the Governor of Pennsylvania. These four black Republican candidates are threatening to put a dent in the Democrats long hold on the black vote and more importantly they're shining light on the way the Dems have taken that voting block for granted.

They're nuts.

1. I hate to say it
but there are probably some people that wouldn't vote for a black person no matter what party they are in. I think it would be good for the Democrats cause some Republicans would not vote.

2. Huh?
Kenneth Blackwell has the personality of snail. I saw him several years ago on "Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher". He kept trying to yell over the other guests. Maher pointed out the only rule on his show was that you eventually give people equal time, otherwise you don't get to do his show anymore. All the vote-stealing turdhead would say was, "I don't give a damn! I don't give a damn!"

3. Ummm...I'm from Pennsylvania...and
I'm not at all sure Lynn Swann is gonna be much of a contender. Big article in the Philly Inquirer
about his voting record (he doesn't bother all that much!) Lots of negative huffle and gafuffle
about it. And I ran into a local Republican committeeman on the street here the other who said
every Republican he knows (including himself) is pissed and going to vote for Rendell.
Rendell is a pretty tough competitor. Swann already looks like a real amateur.

who got up in front of a Jewish group and compared stem cell research to the Holocaust...and then when he was criticized for it, declared he was FOR stem cell research.

believe me, it gets a lot worse from there!

(he honestly thinks if he plays his cards right in regard to party loyalty, he's going to move up in the ranks to senator or something big)

6. Yea, all of them are behind in the polls
Blackwell is 12 points behind Strickland and Steele is 12 points behind Cardin. Swann is behind Rendell and I haven't seen a poll showing Stabbenow even close to being in trouble.

8. The bigotry of low expectations...the GOP thinks Blacks only back Blacks
Yet these Black candidates support POLICIES--Bush policies-- that are supported by ONLY 2% of the Black community. These candidates are 'cutout Black's who are beholden only to the white GOP power structure.

And the Black incumbents in those states (eg Ohio) are so bogged down in systemic CORRUPTION that their candidacy's will not be taken seriously by even the most race-sensitive minorities. Moreover, Blackwell in Ohio is best known for undertaking every possible effort to disenfranchise Black voters in 2004.

Finally...Blacks in these states have bourne a disproportionate share of the economic suffering brought on by years of mis-guided 'trickle down' policies that pamper the rich white corporate kleptocracy at the expense of minorities and working families.

Just wait until they see the results in November.

They are Republicans. They cannot, or will not, relate to the majority of African-Americans, because if they did, or could, they WOULDN'T BE REPUBLICANS IN THE FIRST PLACE.

11. Um, well.... I call that freeper crap "racism."
Their racist/fascist/black crap is so full of baloney, it really makes my head spin.

They wave their "good negroes" in our faces and expect everyone to be impressed by their "diversity." And look how they always phrase their bullshit as 'escaping the plantation.' Oh, puuuleese, give me a break already. The Party of Lincoln and the Party of the Southern Strategy have severe case of cognitive dissonance.

While not all Republicans are racists, all racists are Republicans (unless they are members of extremist groups like the Constitution Party).

Condo-sleezy-liar, Colin Powell and others waved by the freepers were never elected to anything. Republicans don't, and won't vote for 'those people.'

Republicans and Freepers are not only racists, they are supreme hypocrites.

I AM black and there's no way that I wouold vote for someone based on skin colour. We're not a monolithic group. Remember, Barbara Lee was the only one who refused to extend the grand Idiot powers to go into Iraq. The CBC has consistently fought against the darkness of this regime. Just because someone is black and running for any office DOES NOT equal votes. I'll take Colin Powell and that witch Kindasleezy Rice wouldn't get elected if their lives depended on it, if it was based on the votes of blacks. The fact that these people are running as republicans DOES NOT help their cause AT ALL. Their running for a party that has as it's base hate, violence and bigotry. Do you really believe that black republican candidates can get elected dog catcher? Please.. This has about as much chance as being successful as bush has of becoming a Rhodes Scholar. I hate it when people assume that blacks or any other group votes as a bloc for people simply based on skin colour.

36. Did You hear about Mosely's Call for a new Black Party ?
Edited on Fri Mar-03-06 02:09 PM by radio4progressives
Some in the Labor are calling for a Labor Party - Mosely said something i agree with, that a (new) Black Party doesn't necessarily mean only for Blacks but would be a party for all those who support the platform.. I don't know exactly what the platform would be, presumably it would be a strong progressive platform, and i doubt it's "up and running" at the moment, but the call for one is interesting, and sort of exciting.

Wonder if you heard or read much about it?

in the minds of Black Folks......and that's a "Black" Republican!

Anyone who remotely supports BushCo is dead meat in most Black communities!

What you don't want to do is to overestimate any appeal these house negroes will have to the Black vote!

24. We saw it, already.
Edited on Fri Mar-03-06 01:17 AM by EST
I was in such a psychic dither, during 2004, due to the presidential fiasco, that I could take no joy in the drubbing. I campaigned, unofficially, for Obama and took a particular interest in that race. I have to say that I never thought of him as black--I mean, it just never came up. There is no context for it. In the question of black republicans, it just shows me that malice toward kindly humans, feeble mindedness, and unbridled greed are not respecters of skin color.
My wonderful, sweet little grand daughter goes to a lutheran grade school, among a fairly broad diversity of backgrounds, and has, sadly, somehow picked up some racially insensitive attitudes. I try to show her, among the animals on our farm, that skin color means nothing. Beauty flows outward from the person, not his skin.

Edit to add: It was really interesting, during the senatorial race, here in Illinois, I never really thought of Obama as black, or any particular color. I ALWAYS was aware that Keyes was black skinned. Hmmmm...

31. Sure 'nuff did-pathetic.
I think it was even on c-spin. As I recall, keyes found ways of delaying and reducing the number meetings between them. Keyes proved to be exactly as he seemed-a small minded narcissist who follows a supernatural projection of his own prejudices. He confirmed what I have long observed: The gods that most people follow are merely themselves, with a superimposed halo.

1. His religious insanity
2. His general insanity
3. His Marvin the Martian voice.

Skin color is way down on the list.

i've seen a couple of these talking events (broadcast on C-Span) aimed to People of Color in general, Native Americans, Chicano and Hispanic communities, but most especially a sharp focus on African American community - I've seen Black speakers talking about how the Dems have virtually abanonded the communty - there's truth to it - but I don't think people are buying what THEY are selling.. :hi:
