Did Bush say $85 Billion for the Gulf Coast? Because this report says...
<http://www.publicintegrity.org/katrina/>

...that less than $26 Billion has been "Allocated" to the DHS/FEMA Disaster Relief Fund!!!(see page 3)

Maybe I'm reading this report, that came out 3/01/2006, from The U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations wrong, hopefully some of you who are better with huge numbers can take a look at this and tell be how they got these figures.

The U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations has posted the latest disaster relief reports on Hurricane Katrina (as of March 2) submitted by FEMA and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on its Web site.

FEMA Disaster Relief Report
<http://appropriations.house.gov/_files/FEMAstatusrpt0302.pdf>

Or maybe he's including another $59 Billion that's going to the DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE and Mega Corps??? I don't know, but here's a partial list (page 22):

GULF STREAM COACH, INC., BECHTEL NATIONAL, INC., MORGAN BUILDINGS & SPAS, INC., CORPORATE LODGING CONSULTANTS, INC., FLUOR DANIEL INC., PRECISION HOMES, CH2M HILL CONSTRUCTORS, INC., SHAW ENVIRONMENTAL & INFRASTRUCTURE, CLEARBROOK LLC, GBL'S, CMH MANUFACTURING, INC., PARTNERSHIP FOR RESPONSE & RECOVERY, NORTH AMERICAN CATASTROPHE SVCS INC., FEMA GROUP TRAVEL, ALLTECH, NISTC, BOURGET'S OF THE SOUTH, LLC, AMERICOLD LOGISTICS LLC, HOUSING & URBAN DEVELOPMENT, CHAMPION HOME BUILDERS CO, EMERGENCY RESPONSE PROG MANAGEMENT, US BANK...

And Why the HELL does FEMA

still have 22,338 "Manufactured Housing Units" (FEMA Trailers) in "Inventory at Staging Areas"

when people are still waiting for their FEMA Trailers!!!!!!!!!! :nuke:

Texas has 13,619 in "Inventory at Staging Area!!!!" (Page 20) :banghead: :mad:

2. Part of the Problem is the US Government likes Trailers
But local Governments do NOT. Unlike Homes, Trailers are viewed as worthless after they are 10 years old. Thus Local Government do not want them. On the other hand the Feds, like trailers for the person is no longer homeless overnight.

This is the problem in New Orleans, the City of New Orleans do NOT want trailers, they want the Feds to provide funds to rebuild new homes. In fact New Orleans, like most cities, make an effort to OUTLAW trailers in their City (Thus most trailers parks you see are in Rural areas, for Suburbs do not even want them). Now under the US Supreme Court Decs ions upholding Zoning, Zoning can NOT be used to outlaw any use, but Cities and Suburbs get around this by designating only a small part of their municipality for Trailer and then only with Special Permission (Known as Variance). Given the headache to get a Variance and the price of most trailers, trailer buyers just do not ask for the Variance (it is easier and cheaper just to build a regular home, which is the intention of the Zoning Rule).

On the other hand, the Federal Government love Trailers. Pull a trailer into the lot the destroyed home was on, hook it up to the Utility Service, and overnight the home owner is no longer homeless. The fact that the trailer is start to depreciate worse than a home is NOT a factor in the Federal Government Calculation.

This is why FEMA has so many trailers on hold, none of the Municipalities wants them.

3. No, I don't think that's it, because these are basically disposable...
...and temporary construction trailers, but instead of putting an office in them, they put in some beds. NPR did an interview with the Governor of Mississippi yesterday, and he said these things are barley habitable, but they are better than living in a tent. (my words about the tent): <http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5242254>

These will all be trashed once the person's house is rebuilt, as most are intended to sit on the home's lot or driveway.

Those "FEMA trailer parks" are the exception, not the rule, but of course, that's all the MSM "news" reports on to make the Bushies not look so bad.
