In Pakistan, Bush Tries Hand at Cricket
In Pakistan, Bush Tries Hand at Cricket

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Mar. 4, 2006
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(AP)

(AP) A game of cricket is good for U.S.-Pakistani relations, but that's about as far as it goes. President Bush says baseball is where his heart is.

After a day of meetings, Bush rolled up his shirt sleeves Saturday afternoon and headed out to the lawn of the U.S. Embassy to play the baseball-like sport with Pakistani students.

He took his turn at bat after a few pointers from Shahryar Khan, chairman of Pakistan's Cricket Board, and Inzamam-ul-Haq, captain of Pakistan's Cricket Team.

Bush took three practice swings with the bat, which is flat on one side and humped on the other. He pretended to knock dirt from his shoes like a baseball player stepping up to the plate, then strode up to the wickets for a few swings.

The president connected with the first pitch, was hit in the shoulder by the second one, and sent a third ball sailing into a tree.

"Put something on that thing," Bush called out to the bowler, the equivalent of a pitcher in baseball. "Do I have my elbow right?"

3. Also that's a tennis ball and not a cricket ball
Edited on Sat Mar-04-06 11:33 AM by ...of J.Temperance
This is a cricket ball.

Heck my Dad played cricket and is a huge cricket fan, he'll laugh at these pictures of Junior looking like a retarded Chimp and playing cricket with a tennis ball.

On Edit: Nicer picture.

5. Is cricket supposed to be played
with a tennis ball? Or did they just exchange it with a tennis ball so Chimpy wouldn't hurt himself too much? I'm surprised they didn't give him one of the oversized Fred Flintstone whiffleball bats.

8. Junior's playing with what they call a tennis-cricket ball
Edited on Sat Mar-04-06 11:46 AM by ...of J.Temperance
It's specifically designed to be used indoors....not outdoors, Junior's playing outdoors in those pictures. The ball is used to avoid injuries in cramped spaces ie. indoors.

It's a lightweight ball covered in felt, it's a tennis ball.

The proper cricket ball is cork and it's covered with red leather, it weigh's about 5.5 ounces. So of course as Junior cannot even ride a bicycle, wave and talk at the same time, or eat a pretzel and watch the television at the same time....who'd let him near a proper cricket ball?

On Edit: Dammit spelling error.
