Wow, this is going to be a challenge!
The primary is August 8th, folks. It's hard enough to be a "come from nowhere" candidate, but to win a primary held when half the Dems are on vacation somewhere else, is really tough.
Having said that, this meeting was a big roomful of fighting Dems who just sick and tired of Joe's "Let's pretend I'm a Democrat" act. The really good news is a) Lamont is a great guy, smart but not annoyingly so, clear in his message, and just plain decent; b) fundraising is spread out around the country. There are volunteers working in New YOrk, Chicago and LA. c)there are passionate, hard working campaign staffers behind him, working to get him before every Dem. Town Committee in all 169 CT towns and to events to give him better visibility.
Next challenge: getting enough names on a petition to ensure a primary. It's gonna get down to one block at a time.
I think everyone came away with their own mental list of things they need to do in their own neighborhoods, communities, coworkers and friends. And I think everyone saw this as a tipping point and a chance to start turning the Democratic Party around to its REAL mission in this country!
Another DUer, Larkspur, was there. Anybody else that I didn't know about from DU there?
More later...
