a followup email to my Rep after a town hall meeting yesterday

Dear Congressman Meehan,
Thank you for being at the ACLU town hall meeting in Wayland Mass on March 4th. I was the lady who gave you the "Fooled Again" book by Mark Crispin Miller.

I wish I had more time to talk with you but I got side tracked with that lady's story about her detained mother. (God, where are we living?)

Anyway, I just wanted to make one more comment about the predicament you and your fellow congressmen and women find yourselves in. I can understand your fear of being singled out by this group of criminals running our country and their well placed, well funded and well organized "evil doers" in the media. May I make a suggestion?

There is SAFETY IN NUMBERS. The problem is...you all thought you were running for public office to "fight the good fight" in the framework of a democracy with rules, procedures and guidelines where everyone, even those on the other side of the isle, were doing what they thought was best for the country.

Well, you have found yourself in a situation that you probably never would have imagined. There is no such thing as politics as usual and you (all) have found yourselves battling not an opponent, but (dare I say) enemies of the state? Yes, I dare say. This group that has taken over is a threat to our very way of life, our democracy. And you are right to say that the Dems need to think outside the box.

Our greatest strength as Democrats , our diverse opinions and ideas, has now become our greatest weakness. We need to ban together like never before and speak with one voice. Loud, clear and without hesitation. Tell it like it is!

So the next time the Republicans pull a fast one in the House ( and this email would be pages long if we got into that), but you know what I'm talking about. How about every single Dem in the House and Senate gets on the steps of the Capitol and declares to the American people that you all are going home!

Tell them like it is....That this House no longer resembles anything like a democracy (give lots of examples of the stuff they've pulled) and you all are no longer going to go on deceiving the American people into thinking that they have a democracy.

The people really need a Kennedy, "Ask not what your country can do for you..." moment. Tell them that YOU need THEM! You need them to DEMAND that the Republicans follow the rules, CONDUCT OVERSIGHT (and then list the all the scandals that they are covering up..and play up the billions gone missing in Iraq...stealing YOUR money America,etc.)
Yes, Rush will blow a gasket, FOX will have a field day and even the so called "liberal media" will challenge you. But I swear on my mother's grave (God Bless her soul) that the American people will see passed it and get behind you. And if I'm wrong? Maybe it best to go down fighting and being able to look yourself in the mirror and look your children in the eyes when they ask, "Where were you when our Democracy was stolen?"
Please tell them you were on the Capitol steps fighting with all your heart, mind and soul.

P.S. When your done with the book, could you please pass it on to Nancy Pelosi? She keeps saying that our solution is in the voting process.

1. Your message to Marty Meehan after town hall meeting

Great idea....the Democrats are just diddling around reacting to the various and nefarious actions of the Republican machine....locally and in Congress. I agree, the next time they pull one --- run the clock on a vote for THREE HOURS !!...refuse to agree to conference committee participants....refuse to bring a bill to the floor....look the other way while Deibold et al assist them in stealing the elections....the VERY next time - leave the sacred halls of Congress and go out on the steps in front and call a press conference and tell the world that you are damn mad and you won't take it any more ---- LAY OUT THE PNAC plan for world domination and a state of constant war. TELL THE NATION that you don't want any more of our people dying in order to pump out the oil and pump in the profits -- in to the pockets of the Bush "cabal". TELL THE NATION that your religion is your own private business, and that this administration is using religion as a tool to divide us, and that by doing so it is dishonoring all religions. The members of the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate need to take back their constitutionally mandated role as the third branch of our government and stop allowing this bunch of power and money-hungry people, and their illiterate puppet "W" to run away with the store and dishonor our country and destroy our way of life and kill our honorable men and women in the military. I am ashamed of what our country has become, and I hope that we can stop Diebold somehow -- maybe we should ALL ask for absentee ballots !! No one should go in and entrust his or her vote to ANY electronic vote counting equipment. Let's get back to basics -- paper and pen/pencil will do just fine. Good luck to us all.

Welcome to DU.. you are all ready up to speed, eh?

And to Sperk: What a dynamite letter. It is sad to think that the only option left is to close down the proceedings in order to show democracy is dying. Sad, but true.

It seems, when viewing the recent bribe scandal enveloping DC, that there are no limits to the repugs getting their way. Indeed, if they would resort to bribery, it shows they would resort to intimidation. In light of the fact that we have seen shades of intimidation time and again, it comes as no surprise to hear that a congressman mentions such matters.

Have the repugs no shame? Have they a shred of decency left? Why do they hate America and its democratic roots?

3. thanks, I truly believe that the gov't will eventually be shut down

if not by congress, then by the people. These thugs are NOT GOING ANYWHERE! You cannot vote out, who you never voted in.
