4. Whew!
In the For (memo) area of the check, I wrote "fighting for women's rights!" (too bad I couldn't fit the word "damnit!" in there?!).

6. I give them $100.00 every year.
I give Emily's List $100.00, but in two payments.

I am not rich. I budget for those things, just like the property taxes.

And when my kids were in college, they only got $25.00 a year.

My youngest daughter went to Planned Parenthood for her birth control when she was an undergrad. She tried to give them ten dollars every time she went in. They don't charge at all.

7. Good for you.
I'm encouraging people on a grass roots level to help Planned Parenthood fight is all. That's a good idea to budget for charity like property taxes, etc. (I'm certainly not rich; no raises in a year; before that, didn't have one for three years. My job allows for flexible time off for dr. appts when I need them and flexible time in general, so that proves to be pretty valuable to me. I know there are people on and off DU who don't have jobs now.) If you can give, fine. If later, fine, too. The fight will continue.

10. Give to a real pro-choice organization.
I like NARAL.

You could go look up others, if you Googled: National Abortion Funds Network, etc.

12. I gave them an extra $20 last week when I went in for my annual checkup.
As I sat there in the waiting room of my local PP, I looked around at the others who were there...the young couple (late teens/early 20s) with their arms around each other, the middle-aged lady who sat, alone, reading a book, the mother who quietly entertained her toddler while gently rocking her newborn, who rested in a carrier at her feet...and realized what an invaluable resource Planned Parenthood is for those of us who have little money and no medical insurance.

I then thought how likely that, a year from now, none of the services that PP provides will be available (I live in Texas, whose legislators recently voted to cut PP funding).

The nurses and doctors at my local PP are the kindest people I have ever dealt with in a medical setting. The day I went they were running late on their appointments due to two doctors being out sick with the flu. Not only did a nurse step into the lobby to announce that they were running late and the reason why, but when I got up to get a book from my car to help pass the time, she saw me walking out the door and said , "Oh no, please don't leave!!" :wow: I had to reassure here that I wasn't leaving, just going to my car for a moment!

It ain't all about abortion.

That really does say it all. Thanks for this post.

14. I'm set up for automatic monthly donations to NARAL Pro-choice
Right now I'm giving $10 a month, but if I get to a point that I can afford more I will definitely increase it.

15. We gave them $5000 a little over a year ago.
We donated a vehicle to them, and it sold for $5175 at auction.

This year, they get the proceeds of the change jar.
