Calif. GOP Halts Voter Registration Plan

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California Republican Party suspended its practice of paying people who sign up GOP voters while prosecutors investigate whether some registrations are improper.

"Having just one instance of voter fraud is too many," state party Chairman Duf Sundheim said in a statement Tuesday. "Any sign of voter fraud must be investigated and those responsible for the fraud should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law."

The state party paid workers $3 for each voter they registered as Republican — a practice also followed by Democrats.

However, election officials in San Bernadino County found that thousands of GOP registration forms may have been filled out by the signature gatherers rather than the voter. Additionally, some non-citizens may have been registered, and some Democrats may have registered as Republicans. Similar problems were discovered in Orange County.

Snip...

The state GOP pays more than 120 companies and organizations to register voters, an effort credited with adding 750,000 Republicans to state voter rolls during the last three years.

1. Fuckers do this all the time. The National news should be reporting
this tonight because it reveals the Republican's Method of Operation.

2. Be interesting to see if they
have common addresses for the non-citizens so the Repugs could request absentee ballots to use for themselves.

3. You know how the Reps always yell so loud about cheating voters
and such? It's all just a smokescreen for the fact that THEY are doing highly illegal stuff on a truly monumental scale.

The bastards especially like to switch people's party affiliation when they register. That seems to be one of their favorite little scams.

4. this is why I wouldn't register with someone else or give them form
even if they present themselves as a democrat or progressive.

They might change it or just trash it as has happened.

9. HA!
I live up in Shasta county, and we're NOT blue up here.

The blue areas are just a rind along the coast. Inland this state is VERY red.

We've got a republican governor, and many of the representatives are republican too.

Don't be fooled: there are more republicans in California than there are PEOPLE in many other states.

10. This has been going on forever
Here are a few more tricks:

- Refuse to allow other than Republicans to register.

- Change a person's registration to Republican (they only get paid for REPUBLICAN registrations).

- Throw all non-Republican registrations in the trash.

I have witnessed and reported ALL of these in my own county (Fresno) and NOTHING was done. This from a County Clerk who, after expressing disappointment that Fresno County would not be purchasing touch screen voting machines, called me, and I quote, a "conspiracy nut" after I pointed out just a few of the problems with the Diebold machines -- this was in a public forum. I followed up with an e-mail with ample documentation attached. For some reason he didn't respond. :eyes:

11. This is why registering and voting in person
in person is so important.

We need to tighten up the rules again for where people can register and absentee voting. Otherwise the Repugs will take full advantage of both because it is so easy to cheat with the way the system is now.
