Anti-War Demonstrations And Candidate Support...
Did you go, would you have gone, or did you show support for the anti-war demonstartions over the past year or so, and who are you supporting for the Dem nomination?

Sorry for the convoluted question, but I'm just lookin for any relationship between war feelings and voting patterns.

I went to about 4 anti-Bush\anti-war demonstrations in the past year or so, and I support Dean.

However, I saw more Kucinich signs and booths than any other candidate. Some Dean, some Kerry, but mostly Kucinich.

So if ya wanna play here, I'll start like this:

Yes - Dean

You?

1. I'm not ABB because of it.
I'm a rarity on this site, but I'm not ABB because of my anti-war views. I refuse to ever vote for those 4 candidates that voted for IWR. That's how strongly I felt about this issue and how much I dispised those four for voting yes. If one of them gets the nod, I'll write in my original primary candidate as a protest of the death of the Democratic party.

I've kicked a lot of conservative ass online during that winter on the war topic, but did not participate in any of the demonstrations.

edit: Oh, I support Dean btw.

3. I saw more Dean supporters last winter and spring at demos.
The few events I have attended after the war ended but were anti occupation related had more Kucinich supporters and very few Dean. The ones I attended were in Boston, NYC and DC. I saw many many Dean supporters at the NYC gay pride parade and a few Kerry supporters, nobody else.

4. Yes Kucinich
i actually spoke at an anti occupation Bring the Troops home rally two or three weeks ago and a dean table was around where the speakers were also i felt it kinda wierd because dean was for prolonging the occupation so i brought that up in my speech because i really feel disapointed at the cannidates who want to proloimng bushs war/occupation for oil/empire when there are troops and iraqi civilians dying every day it think that imho the iraqi have suffered under so many dictators that they deserve a chance to have a legit org help them get set up like the un and i also feel that we need to give them reperations of course.I see more kucinich tables at progresssive events around town.
When i went to miami for the ftaa protests i saw only kucinich and gephardt supporters handin out info or showing support (buttons stickers or signs)

7. Yes - Dean...
...I was already supporting Dean though, so that his views meshing with mine on Iraq was a happy extra. I opposed the action for much the same reason as well. Everytime the Bush administration lobbed up more "iron-clad proof", one had only to wait a day or a week for holes to be poked in it. I remember the quaking knees on this board even after Powell's presentation to the UN. Many people still held Powell in some degree of respect at that time, and simply couldn't believe that he would bold-face lie for Bush. So I went to two anti-war demonstrations. One was at the JSLogistics plant in St. Louis (scene of the infamous Made in USA prop-set). I wasn't campaigning for a candidate though, I do recall having spoken to several people there about both Dean and Kucinich. Actually, there weren't any visible demonstrations of support for any particular nominee, although I have run into people who were there at our local MeetUps.

33. Taking into consideration that you were convinced there were WMDs
in Iraq, and kept posting those "This is it, folks!" threads whenever there were any news about secret labs being found, what do you think about the war now? Here we are in 2004 and there hasn't been any evidence of WMD, despite the best efforts by people like David Kay.

Since WMD was the raison d'etre for war, don't you think we were lied to, and that the war was wrong, and that it is an outrage that thousands of men, women, and children are dead and wounded in a war that could have been avoided?

There are many issues that I care about, but the war is the one issue that trumps all others.

36. I was at THAT one!
and a few other locally, and a fairly regular member of a weekly vigil. Undecided on candidate - but don't think that it matters at this point (my support - as having a May primary pretty much dictates that the candidate is already selected.) Am ABB - but would have trouble with the two candidates who stood at the Rose Garden with Bush and sabotaged ongoing bipartisan work on amendments to the IWR. But my trouble with those two candidates actually stretches back into their political histories ... beyond the war vote. But in the end - I would likely still vote for them and work for them - as I can barely fathom the devastation that will be brought to our country, our system and the world if Bush and his cronies are even more emboldened by an electoral win.

My feeling is that I cannot possibly decide upon a candidate until I know who the Greens nominate and who the Democrats nominate. I find Kucinich very respectable on the Democratic side, although I also like Sharpton and Moseley-Braun. I like Cobb for the Greens, although Camejo might be supportable.

I will not vote pro-war, period.

22. I supported the anti-war movement!
I did support them with money although I couldn't go.

I would expect to see more Kucinich signs at such rallies! Why? Because most of the war protesters understand (I think) that we are living in a Military Empire that must be stopped! There is only one candidate (Dennis Kucinich) who wants to change our nation's emphasis from military force for economic gain to actually working for peace and deemphasizing the offensive power of the military.

Any candidate who says we need to stay in Iraq is a supporter of the Empire. Kucinich has it right; rebuilding nations is the business of the world community and the United Nations. This is especially true because we (the USA) are the attackers (illegally). We are looked at as occupiers emposing our rules on the Iraqis.

27. Yes. Kucinich.
I attended a local rally on February 15th; got my picture in the paper. Which I had no clue until people at work approached me about it. I also met with a small group of people a few times on the corner of a busy intersection; there I got yelled at, got fruit thrown at me, and garnered plenty of supportive honks and waves, as well.

I went to all the SF protests except one if I recall correctly. I support Clark for many reasons but one is that he stated he wants to take away the power of the military/industrial complex. I heard him speek on this in SF, and he truly understands the danger of the MI and understands how to reduce the power and influence of the MIC. He also wants to rely on international organizations, does not believe in war unless there is no other way, and wants to reduce military spending. I think he can accomplish this better than any other candidate because he has credibility because of his years in the military.

43. Isn’t it far more important to ask
“Which candidates marched and spoke at anti-war demonstrations”?

A true test of courage and principle for those candidates that say they opposed the war in Iraq is to look at their actions as well as their words.

To my knowledge Congressman Kucinich (in Cleveland) and Reverend Sharpton (in Washington DC) were the only candidates to actually march and speak at an anti-war demonstration.
