2006 House election: Districts without challengers? Please check in.
I've trolled through Campaign Underground, and compiled a list of districts that don't have listed Democratic challengers. I'm not sure about all of these, since for some of them CU may simply have missed them. Does anyone know challengers running in these districts?

I also want to raise discussion on an idea. If the DNC doesn't provide challengers in some districts, should we DUers run our own people? Sure, many if not most of these districts are probably a lost cause for at least the next 30-40 years, but it doesn't hurt to have a left-leaning voice out there speaking. DU could provide a support framework: have a group of talented people tasked with writing talking points, volunteers to do campaign work, etcetera. Talk to me, folks.

4. VA-04 Here
I've often wondered what it would be like running for Congress... but I feel like I have little chance here. Maybe if hell froze over first. Besides, no one would take me seriously because of my age (24)... and really no experience that I could run on. I doubt I have a chance in hell in winning if I tried to run.

10. I know the feeling.
Besides, the minimum age for being a member of the House is twenty five. Though you probably have a birthday between now and next January, so you could qualify if you wanted to.

I too would be attempting to unseat my representative, Tom Reynolds (R-Dickless prick), were it not for the fact that I'm essentially nobody. That, and the fact that I too am under that critical age threshold.

Still, being a nobody doesn't always hurt. Man (or woman, or Other) of the people, and all that. Non-politician, outsider, Mr. Smith Goes To Washington sort of thing. There's always a way to spin it.

6. Does the DNC care that Republicans are vulnerable?
Edited on Thu Mar-09-06 01:54 AM by flaminbats
running candidates has a national snowball effect in elections! Not every candidate is bound to win, but even Democrats in very conservative districts are more likely to turnout and vote for Democrats in state elections if we recruit candidates in every district! That makes a huge difference in really close races for the Senate and Governor.

But if the DNC doesn't want candidates....then clearly they don't want votes! :eyes:

11. The DNC cares about their money.
It's not that they don't care about downticket races, but they really tend to focus exclusively on the things they think they can win. In their estimation, the voters from the downticket districts aren't worth the amount of money it would cost to put a candidate there. They'd rather put it directly into a winnable district, or the statewide races. I don't personally agree, obviously, but that's generally their reasoning.
