The FEMA trailor saga continues in New Orleans |
|
Edited on Thu Mar-09-06 08:35 AM by BOSSHOG
I was listening to NOLA radio yesterday and citizens were calling in saying they no longer needed their FEMA trailors and had asked FEMA to come pick them up and give them to someone who needed them. Some were told it may take a year for that to happen. One caller said he told FEMA he would move the trailor for them to another location. He was told it would be a federal offense for him to move the Trailor. And people are still living in tents. Saturday Night Live could not have done this any better.

1. FEMA is doing everything they can |
|
to make life harder for people, rather then easier and they are doing it on purpose. Of course, that church group down the street will be more then willing to help you out but they don't have much for resources either.

I can accept the early missteps but they've been doing this now for six months and things should be systemic and routine and easy.

3. This breaks my heart; when will this admin figure out that all the |
|
b.s. bureacracy needs to be cut so people can actually be helped? There has got to be a way to develop a simple system and then streamline that so the actual original function of FEMA is realized?

4. A healthy dose of leadership |

and wala, FEMA would be working smart and partying hard every night in the quarter. It boggles my mind. Their mission is not to design rockets to the moon. They have the fiscal resources and manpower to get the job done and the locals are dying to help out. On one of the shows, a FEMA rep comes on and takes calls; he then has the caller give their phone number to a person off air and they will "get back to them." Three callers on a different show said they left their number (again) weeks ago and haven't heard a word.

6. Exactly, BOSS. First, divorce FEMA from DHS, then find |
|
someone who is COMPETENT, though that word apparently doesn't apply to anyone in this admin. It's not what you know, it's who you know.

5. As with many things about this administration ... |
|
I don't know how tightly to put on my tinfoil hat. It seems as though no one could be this incompetent, so maybe their plan is to be so inept that people will distrust all government agencies and then the Faith-Based Initiatives can come to town with our tax dollars. Or maybe I'm giving them too much credit and they really are just this stupid.
In either case, it is unconscionable that people are still suffering like they are. It's frightening and appalling.
