The GOP is just trying to rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic. Bush has lost his Mojo on national security and it won't be coming back.

Plame
Abramoff
NSA Wire Tapping
Iraq

in the wings -- blather heads have been clucking over the abramoff one, anticipating some big brouhaha to emerge this summer on that

Plame-Libby is not scheduled for the courts until Jan '07

They may have closed the lid on the wire-tapping, but there always a chance that a few worms will crawl out of that can again

Iraq - civil war or no civil war? When will troops be pulled out? This one will be with us for awhile

meanwhile - is an Iranian Invasion in our future -- lots of saber rattling, drum beating going on. Probably be a good news/bad news - troops being pulled out of IraQ and sent to IraN

on edit: oh yeah - Hurricane Season is approaching... levees may not be finished in time, and have heard that the repairs are not even up to pre-Katrina snuff...

5. Wiretapping lid is not closed
They dodged an investigation, which means the issue remains open and fair game for Dem campaigns. Now the Pres is still on the hook, having confessed to the crime and promised to continue. Plus, all those who voted to drop the investigation, are now also complicit and therefore targets of criticism.

FBI admits many spying violations
Justice's inspector general investigates problems administering Patriot Act
Dan Eggen, Washington Post

Thursday, March 9, 2006

Washington -- The FBI reported more than 100 apparent violations to an intelligence oversight board over the past two years, including cases in which agents tapped the wrong telephone, intercepted the wrong e-mails or continued to listen to conversations after a warrant had expired, according to a report issued Wednesday.

In one case, the FBI obtained the contents of 181 telephone calls rather than just the billing records to which it was entitled.

In another, a communication was monitored for more than a year after eavesdropping should have ended -- although investigators blamed a third-party provider for the mix-up.

The findings were part of a semiannual report by Justice Department Inspector General Glenn Fine on problems related to the USA Patriot Act, the broad anti-terrorism law that is scheduled to be renewed today with President Bush's signature.

6. Excuse me, but...
I disagree. It has taken 5 years to finally land a shot on * and his Gang that finally shook them. Every thing else he just shook off. I feel that THIS is the one. Like saying another woman's name in bed, somethings you just don't get past, and I do not think * is going to get past this one.

I may appear that he may just be reduced to sleeping on the couch for now, but trust me, in time he will be out of the house and served with divorce papers.

Just because we landed a shot that knocked him down, does not mean we can't kick him while he is down there.

Pat Schroeder called Ronald Reagan the teflon president, but I think that better applies to Bush.

Apparently, CNN is already spreading the word that Dubai Ports World will "sell" six ports to an American company; therefore, end of dilemma.

From what I heard, they were selling to a front company. Also, what happened to the other 15 ports? It's 21, not 6. Something is still up with this. We need to keep on top of it.

Welcome to DU. :hi:

10. I think there is much more to be gained by putting the focus back on ....
the NSA spying scandal. Since the program hasn't been stopped--he needs to be kicked into submission.

11. One thing weakened the NSA Spying Scandal...
And that was that * immedeately admitted to it and does not hesitate to state that he will allow it to continue. In the eyes of the American people, it does not seem so bad, since if it was, * surely would have tried to deny it and certainly would not continue to openly advocate it.

You have to get down into the detail of why it is wrong and it has long since become obvious to me that if it can't be summed up in a sound bite, too many Americans don't want to be bothered with it.

As soon as * says that it is "to protect us from terra" it becomes okay. It makes me sick that that shit works every fucking time!

15. How about trashing the nuke non proliferation treaty to kiss up to India?
That should be good for another round of bipartisan Bush bashing.
