Went to a union meeting tonight with locked out workers and
....

My husband is a locked out worker at AK Steel (maybe you have read about this). Well I remember at election time dh saying alot of the guys were voting for Bush, and I was like why are these union guys republicans??

Well tonight at this meeting I thought it was cool and hopefully these 3000 steel workers in a republican part of ohio remember this:

Senator Edward Kennedy wrote a letter to the union president telling him he supported him and supports working families, how he hoped for the best etc. Dh couldn't believe that the senator of Mass. would send something like that when it's not even his state kwim?

And Ted Strickland is going to be by this week. So here is the very big lockout going on and we haven't heard anything from the republicans who run Ohio.

I thought about calling sound off tomorrow in our newspaper, trying to point this out to everyone!

5. I hope
These guys are really united, and are very appreciative to any businesses that have donated anything.. and also not appreciative to any businesses that have been kind to the scabs. Their contract expired feb. 28th at midnight and the company actually escorted everyone out and locked them out of their jobs.

7. Senator Kennedy is a good man. I've always been proud of him.

We need new Labor leaders to work with new grassroots candidates.

I love the fact that he voted against Bush's Invasion of Iraq. He knew what was happening. I still have my list of the others who voted together that day.

8. Oh, man. Sorry about the lockout. And no, no news about it
elsewhere. It must not be real. :sarcasm:

Great of Kennedy to do that, and yes by all means try to yak that up.

Best wishes for a good outcome, and soon.

9. May the Union strengthen! That is my prayer.
The GOPers in my union get fewer and fewer. I love every minute of the change. I am AFL-CIO. I am ALPA (Air Line Pilots Association). I am union to the bone.

12. Solidarity!
The democratic party is missing the boat on the unions, BIG TIME.

I think the union vote, and their active participation could be won
back easily now.
Ad campaigns that play to the strength and power of the union image
could be working for us in a HUGE way.

Where's OUR brent bozell?

10. I don't think I've ever heard of a vote by Kennedy that went against
the grain of all he stands for. His big mistake in his earlier years kept him out of the WH, but it was a gift to little people everywhere and the country. Even the families of the Republicans have benefited from the things he has fought for. But, they didn't let him get his increase in minimum wage this week. It's still at a whopping $5.15 (?) an hour. When are the Republicans going to let go and act humanly?

I am so proud of certain people in this world.

Thanks for sharing.
