BAKERSFIELD - The U.S. Senate is working on an illegal immigration control bill that was already passed by the House of Representatives.
The controversial measure includes several provisions that would make it a felony for organizations to provide any services to immigrants who came to the U.S illegally.
Since a major portion of Kern’s local workforce does not have legal status, especially in agriculture, community members are calling on the public to call on California Senators to oppose this bill.
The bill is called the Border Protection, Anti-terrorism, and Illegal Immigration Control Act of 2005, or HR4437.
HR 4437 already passed in the house and is in the judiciary committee of the U.S. Senate.
Activist Dolores Huerta says the bill goes too far and that the U.S. has always been a country of immigrants.
