4. I'm saying your failure to disclose the protestors is telling.
You had a choice of either fully informing readers or not, and you chose not to. Why?

6. it's called the Democratic Underground for a reason
When someone protests Bill Clinton, it's different than when they protest George Bush.

I have not said they should not have free speech, only that your post and thread should disclose they are the two who protested Bill Clinton.

It matters because some of us here are party hacks.

The links were there. I was able to read the full petition. I signed it although I didn't agree with what they were protesting they have the right to protest so I had no trouble in signing...

10. Neil - that information is in the article..
I read it. I haven't signed it. I'm considering signing it on principle, which is the point of this petition.

seems like i'm observing a set of different standards here, but i know i must be wrong..

13. I think it's important than anyone reading the thread know
If people still want to sign it, fine by me. I want disclosure.

Does it matter who the target is? Yes, for petitions it matters.

17. it's not aggressive, merely insistent
I thought they both came across as sincere anti-war protestors when they posted here, and stated as much in the thread.

Since this is the Demo Underground, I think it's appropriate to make sure people who read the thread understand from the thread that it involves the Bill Clinton incident.

11. This university reaction seems pretty over the top.
That the target of the students' peaceful protest was Bill Clinton should not matter to people who really believe in the First Amendment.

18. I support free speech, and have no problem with your protesters
I just wanted to make that clear. I don't agree with their point of view regarding Bubba, but people standing up and shouting their dissatisfaction at leaders - past, present, or future - is what America is all about.

19. Perhaps they should post this at free republic and see what response they
get. make sure to say that you were protesting Bill Clinton. that should be really interesting. we will see who is for free speech then now won't we?

20. Even if they did sign it
their motivation would be because they were protesting Clinton--not because they are believers in and defenders of free speech.

While I am a supporter of free speech, unconditionally, I do see Neil's point. Their is an ethical imperative of full disclosure, and not being forthcoming about the facts suggests bad faith.
