Democrats rolled their eyes and said, "That's just embarassing. Let's talk to the American people like adults. The GOP and even some Democrats want to continue to use the attacks on 9/11 as an excuse to take control of other country's oil, which has been the basis of our foreign policy in the Middle East since at least World War II. The only connection between terrorism and invading countries in the Middle East is that invading them incites hatred of the United States and terrorism.
My opponent wants to scare the bejesus out of you with stories about countries getting a handful of nukes and using them on us even though the leader of every country knows our retaliation would be swift and wipe out their country completely before that one mushroom cloud cleared here. We have 10,000 nuclear warheads. If you had a revolver with maybe six bullets, would you take on an army with 10,000?
My opponent tries to hide these obvious facts because he is afraid. Afraid he can't sell you these wars based on the reality that our country runs on oil, or even more honestly, that this isn't about keeping our economy rolling. If that was the case, we would have done what China did with Iran and Canada: simply BUY a share of the oil on long term contracts.
Rather than taking care of average Americans, we are giving the profits of that oil to a handful of "American" corporations. As we saw after Hurricane Katrina, oil companies have no plans to repay us with reasonable prices for the favor we have done them using our tax dollars to protect the royal family in Saudi for decades, invade Iraq, and next to invade Iran.
Big business has a saying, "Socialize risk and privatize profits." That means we take the risk with our tax dollars and the lives of our sons and daughters to seize the oil in the Middle East, and corporations collect all the profits.
These are ugly, hard truths but we cannot set our country right without dealing honestly with them."
