Kerry's 10-point plan
Posted by DUer babylonsister

From John Kerry tonight

Pinpoints worth fighting for in a nutshell:

1. Obey law, protect civil rights.
2. Tell the truth.
3. Fire the incompetents.
4. Chase the moneylenders and changers from temple of democracy.
5. Bring our troops home!
6. Find OBL and protect ports.
7. Stop stabilizing big oil and blaming people. Commit to alternatives.
8. Make access to healthcare affordable as America's right.
9. Reduce deficit (conservative!) Respect work over wealth.
10. Fight for American jobs.

2. Well said John
Apparent Bush has a problem accomplishing any single one of these.

America deserves better.

3. Curious imagery, but otherwise good.
Tonight has been tough on me, as a Dem and a Kerry supporter. It was good to get an update from him.

5. I think fair elections is included in #1.
#7 ... "and we need to commit ourselves to alternative and renewable fuels."

You're right, though. The environment should be specifically mentioned somewhere in the 10 points. With his environmental record (95% LCV), you would think he'd have included it as a separate point.

7. Somewhat disturbing
that our so-called Dem leaders are trying to run for 2008, yet are doing nothing but distracting Dems from the 2006 races.

I've decided I'm not going to support any Dem candidate who isn't out busting their ass to get back a Dem majority in Congress and in the states.

Help us turn a few red states blue this year and I'll think about voting for you.

11. Kerry is promoting, endorsing and raising funds for Nov elections

He especially supports several veterans from Mid- Eastern conflicts, including at least one disabled service woman.

20. Then lets focus our attention on 2006 candidates
We can talk about 2008 after November.

22. Duh
He said this at a fundraiser for N.H. town and county Democrats dinner (you know money they need for the '06 elections). He was giving them points to run on.

Do you even know how much Kerry has done for Dems all over this country? This is all about 2006. :banghead:

8. On point #5, I think I heard Kerry say "from stable Iraq"
He got a lot of applause on that line, but I definitely remember hearing "stable" there.

9. That is what he said, but he did not say what he meant by a "stable" Iraq.
I would like to hear more from him on this.

13. Well, there are many ways to define stable, but we can all agree
that Iraq was only stable when Saddam was in charge.

If we are going to wait for Iraq to have peace and security, we will be there until the next century.

10. Key to change in Washington is #4.
Hope his #4 "Chase the moneylenders and changers from temple of democracy" means that he will re-introduce his "Clean Money, Clean Elections" bill from 1997. Link to the bill below.

12. I hope so too. This was the Wellstone-Kerry Act.
I wish Sen. Kerry would re-introduce it. It would be a great thing for the country and a great way to honor the memory of Paul Wellstone. The Rethugs would never let it out of committee, but still, he could re-introduce it and then people could run on it this year. A Democratic Congress might be more receptive to this bill and it's provisions that would guarantee cleaner elections.

14. I can support these principles.
I yearn for more specificity,
and please move from "access to affordable Healthcare" to Universal healthcare.
All in all, much better than 2004.

In recent polls by the Pew Research Group, the Opinion Research Corporation, the Wall Street Journal, and CBS News, the American majority has made clear how it feels. Look at how the majority feels about some of the issues that you'd think would be gospel to a REAL Democratic party:

1. 65 percent say the government should guarantee health insurance for everyone -- even if it means raising taxes.

2. 86 percent favor raising the minimum wage (including 79 percent of selfdescribed "social conservatives").

3. 60 percent favor repealing either all of Bush's tax cuts or at least those cuts that went to the rich.

4. 66 percent would reduce the deficit not by cutting domestic spending but by reducing Pentagon spending or raising taxes.

5. 77 percent believe the country should do "whatever it takes" to protect the environment.

6. 87 percent think big oil corporations are gouging consumers, and 80 percent (including 76 percent of Republicans) would support a windfall profits tax on the oil giants if the revenues went for more research on alternative fuels.

7. 69 percent agree that corporate offshoring of jobs is bad for the U.S. economy (78 percent of "disaffected" voters think this), and only 22% believe offshoring is good because "it keeps costs down."

15. He had me at #1
But the whole list is great.

Thank you Kerry for showing that dems really do have a plan.

And Kerry will be on Road to the WH on C-Span throughout the day, so many
people will get to listen.

Kerry remains in one of the top spots for 2008.
And I will proudly support him again.
