1. The question is, "who" can we trust?
Certainly, none of the Vichy dems. At this point I'm not looking so much for a "progressive" candidate as I am for a candidate that'll put the people first, and not corporations and special interests. Unfortunately, even my own personal favorite, Wes Clark, doesn't leave me totally sanguine as to what a Clark administration might look like. Gore, Kerry, et al, seem to me to represent a "back to the future" approach in which the tried and true (failed) policies of the past would just be taken out, dusted off and paid lip-service to until the GOPukes could get their act together and kick our butts in 2012.

And who would collect the money Molly talks about? I'd volunteer but if you sent me 42 million bucks I'd probably head for Costa Rica on the very next flight out. Is there a progressive think tank or foundation that could be trusted to use that money properly, or would we just be substituting some undemocratic board of directors for the party? Who would decide? Should we have a straw poll on DU? I'd like that because us Clarkistas have a big presence here. Would that be the right thing to do, though? And if our candidate did win the nomination, could we keep him/her from blowing all the money on campaign consultants that'll do as good a job as they did with Kerry? Should the "grass roots" finance campaigns and candidates that can't distance themselves from the "grass roots" fast enough?

Hey, when you are around long enough you start thinking about things like that.

But more and more I think that the answer lies in a name maybe only a few people know now, and I not one of them.

Russ Holt Dem of NJ. alwasy seems to be on the right side of the issues (no not that right- the really right side)- pro-people, peo-democracy, pro-science, pro-environmental etc.

without a verified vote it may NOT matter much! http:vvlobbydays.blogspot.com

3. She reflected my thoughts almost point by point.
I don't think we need to clean out DC just yet, but we absolutely need new leadership (no, I am **not** talking about Howard Dean - he's doing okay as far as I'm concerned).

I actually could get behind "Bill Moyers or Oprah" .... someone who is progressive, thoughtful, serious, charismatic, a little wonkish, but most of all pragmatic and fearless. We have far too long lived with fearful Democrats.

Why are the dems, as a group, so seemingly fearful?

Maybe they're so deeply part of the system they fear themselves and their own backgrounds.

And the pragmatism. Things NEED to be done. Some of them may not be popular. Just as one example, how do we overcome the deficit created by the Boy King? It ain't gunna be easy. But it NEEDS to be dealt with.

How do we extricate ourselves from the mess created by the Boy King in the Middle East? Just walking away tomorrow isn't the answer. But neither is staying a day longer. An honest pragmatist will lead us in the right direction ... not the popular direction. In the end, something NEEDS to be done.

How do we restore the viability of our dwindling middle class while at the same time return to this country the lost big-company jobs that have always sustained the non-entreprenurial rank and file citizen? Something NEEDS to be done to change the corporate mindset of ruthless corporatism and profit uber alles. (I'm not anti-company, but I **am** anti-corporatism.)

How do we sustain the least among us? How do we maximize the worth of every living, breathing person in our country? They, too, are citizens. Something NEEDS to be done.

I look at DC and I see ....... damned little.

I can, at this point, think of a few names that fit the bill as Ms. Ivans has established it in her article, but there's no need to mention them here and now and kill the larger discussion.

4. I think she is right too,... I was honestly asking: Who?
You know there have to be some honorable state/local people working very hard.
It would benefit us to see them serve at the top, we just have to get them out of the woodwork.
