Anyone else see Barak Obama on Face the Nation?
I admire him, but where's the outrage? No mention of the call for censure. ???

1. Feingold announced that on This Week, so Obama and
Schieffer may not have been aware of it yet.

14. A friend of mine interviewed Obama
When he was campaigning in Minn in 2004, helping a Dem candidate there.

He said he was thoroughly arrogant and his entourage was lily white. And my friend is black so he can get away with the arrogant remark.

white? His father is from Kenya, mom from Kansas. Is he supposed to hang with all blacks because he's half black? My son is half Japanese, his friends are not all Japanese.

15. Well, he's not God
so yes he would pretty much have to be over rated since that's how he's rated. He's still a great and inspiring Senator.

34. he's a freshman Senator, with about a year under his belt
He gave an awesome speech during the convention. But he just needs more time and experience. We can't push this guy into being FDR or Kennedy overnight. Even Kennedy had a Senate term under his belt. Over-rated? He's a great freshman, let's check him out in 2012 as a seasoned politician and try calling him over-rated then.

10. He has copies of every one of his appearances. Ask nicely, he may send
send you a copy. CD, DVD, VHS, Beta, MP-3 and iPod formats all available for a small campaign donation. (insert sarcasm)

He was yesterday's darling, but without a willingness to actually stand for something, his true appearance comes out. He is a lightweight. He had an opportunity to do good, and he and his all too cautious presidential campaign advisors squandered it.

I do not chide him for trying to "bring back mutual respect within the senate halls". I do criticize his timing, preferences and choices.

After the Titanic tried unsuccessfully to attack some ice in the Atlantic, what was the captain's biggest concern? making sure that all the officers were perfectly dressed, with shiny shoes, shinier brass buttons, and even shinier close-shaved faces, making sure that every salute and protocol is perfectly obeyed BEFORE THEY GIVE THE ORDERS TO FIX THE LEAK or to put women and children in lifeboats.

That is what Obama is doing, putting form and appearance far above substance. For that, he has lost my support when he runs for re-election.

13. Well he gets invited
and certainly does better then some of our regulars. He should say yes. I wish they'd invite more to speak.

I loved seeing Feingold today, I hope he becomes a regular on Sunday shows. Levin has been showing up more too.

8. He was weak... There were so many opportunities
for him to defend Democrats in a more forceful (but not overbearing way) and he seemed to drop the ball. When he was asked why Dems don't have a plan...he ticked off energy independence, healthcare, jobs and education. It sounded tired. Sort of like the old "chicken in every pot" speech but without any oomph.

I don't think he wants to draw attention to himself. But, we sure need some folks who can be more articulate about what our issues are. But, to the DLC types I guess the issues for Dems are what Obama stated...so why should anyone get in a frenzy...

23. ultimate paradox: "wanting to say you are independent..."
yet requiring the "security" that comes with safe stances, safe actions, conforming to status quo and conventional wisdom..

I'd hoped for far more from this promising young Senator. We shall see. So far, I'm disappointed.

19. Is there anyone acceptable here at all anymore?
Good grief. The transcript and excerpts from the video are up now. Looks like he did a good job.

The only think I disagree with strongly is ANY of the Democrats or Republicans saying "it is up to the Iraqis."

Hell, we bombed their infrastructure, fired their army, fired their teachers and state workers....and then we say it is up to them.

That part I disagree with.

There is so little tolerance here for any Democrats anymore. Kind of scary in a congressional election year.

25. If any other Democrat had said the exact same things as Obama
Then there would be tons of threads calling for him to be president. For some reason Senator Obama is supposed to be this rabid, irrational person that speaks and reacts recklessly and without regard for his own constituency. I'm starting to wonder what this is all about-- were people looking for him to be another Rev. Sharpton?

a true Democrat. Admittedly that was a bit much to hope for, but he hasn't even come close. Can you imagine John Conyers Obama's age and in the Senate?

Edited on Mon Mar-13-06 08:38 AM by Benhurst
point out; but I chose him because he is one of the few members Congress with backbone and a member of our party with whom I agree on most issues. I could have chosen Feingold (but then you could have pointed out that he is, after all, a Jew) or even stretched it a tad and used Boxer, a senator I respect but have more areas of disagreement (only to have it pointed out that she is, after all, a woman.)

When we were practically given a senate seat in Illinois with the collapse of the opposition, I had hoped it presented us with the rare opportunity of getting an uncompromised candidate, one at the very least who would have gone on to stand with the nine Democrats and one Independent who supported what is left of the Republic by voting against the so-called "Patriot" Act.

The corporate media's gentle treatment of Obama should have served as fair warning that such was not to be the case.

Black or white, male or female, Christian or Jew, Obama has rather consistently proven himself to be a disappointment.

Business as usual on Capitol Hill.

Unfortunately Mr. Obama is no John Conyers. But then he is no Russ Feingold or even Barbara Boxer either.

So much the pity.

35. I join you in your hope;
but many of an idealistic young senator has come to Capitol Hill, only to learn the ropes and end up a hack.

One doesn't need Senate experience to know the difference between right and wrong, legal and illegal, moral and immoral.

Barak's voting record has been a disappointment. If history provides any clue, it will probably get worse, not better, as he "learns the ropes."

32. Outrage/Dean Scream, a Fine Line
If he was to get just a little out of control, the media would spank him like a new baby. I think most Democrats, along with being owned by the same corporate interests as the republicans, fear the treatment Dean got. They know if they step out of line, it'll be some kind of trashing they will get. Most of them would rather sit quietly than be attacked in that way.

Oddly, that is just the opposite of what is needed. They need to fight back, and replace one empassioned speech with another, where they become known as people who actually care about their constituents.

So dont blame those who yesterday did not endorse it.

It is Feingold's choice to go alone.
