O'Reilly: Those who accused Bush of lying about WMDs owe him an apology
Good news and bad news for President Bush about Iraq. That is the subject of this evening's "Talking Points Memo."

Even though the liberal New York Times buried the lead, its two part series on what really happened in the run up to opposing Saddam Hussein is a great piece of reporting. According to writers Michael Gordon and Bernard Trainor, Saddam's top generals were shocked when he told them that he destroyed his WMD arsenal.

The article says, "The Iraqi dictator was so secretive and kept information so compartmentalized that his top military leaders were stunned when he told them three months before the war began that he had no weapons of mass destruction and they were demoralized because they had counted on hidden stocks of poison gas or germ weapons for the nation's defense." Now, according to the article, Saddam wanted the USA, Iran and other perceived enemies to believe he had WMDs. He thought that would deter action against him. So we now know why the CIA, British intelligence, Russian intelligence and many other countries believed Saddam did possess deadly weapons, because his own generals believed it. Therefore, those people who have accused President Bush of lying about WMDs owe him an apology, do they not?

The liars list includes: Senators Reid, Edwards, Obama, Durbin, Leahy, Kennedy, Byrd and Dayton. Also Al Gore, Jimmy Carter, Al Sharpton, Howard Dean and a bunch of congressmen. The president should also be getting apologetic notes from at least four New York Times columnists, Ron Reagan Jr., Chevy Chase, Barbra Streisand, Ben Colwin, Jessica Lange, Johnny Depp, Helen Thomas, just to name a few. "Talking Points" will let you know which of these people steps up and apologizes — does the right thing. OK. That's the plus for the president: He didn't lie.

3. Gee Billy this doesn't explain why Saddam let weapons inspectors
in to proove he didn't have weapons. :eyes:

Additionally - * kicked out the inspectors but that matters not huh? OOPS!

What an idiot. People died because Bush DID NOT CARE IF SADDAM HAD WEAPONS or not. These people never cease to amaze - never.

4. Love it when the man with no intelligence at all ...
... speaks to the topic of Intelligence.

"So we now know why the CIA, British intelligence, Russian intelligence and many other countries believed Saddam did possess deadly weapons, because his own generals believed it."

And let's just disregard the fact that the inspectors (who were actually IN Iraq), WH advisors, military specialists, etc. said there were NO WMDs.

When is Bush going to step up to the plate and apologize to them?

5. And yet I, a computer technician in New Jersey, knew he had no weapons.
How is it even possible that I knew more than the CIA, British & Russian Intelligence, Congress, the White House, et al? Either I am a superbeing of unmitigated mental powers (arguments in favor of this theory are welcome) or else the evidence was being cooked to arive at a particular outcome (arguments in favor of this theory are, sadly, much more common).

Who was on the ground in Iraq . . . who said . . . oh wait . . . nevermind.

I love it that now the defense of Bush is that he was "bamboozled" by Saddam.

9. No one owes him such an apology. He should've listened to the inspector
Weapons inspectors said they could find no evidence that Iraq possessed WMDs. This proves that the UN and those American dissenters who strongy urged the scumbag-in-chief to allow weapons inspection teams to finish thier mission were correct and that further inspections would have supported the initial determinations that no WMDs existed in Iraq.

Fuck You O'Reilly.

12. Now, let me get this straight...
In the run-up to the war, Bush insisted that Iraq had WMD. Anti-war critics insisted that they didn't.

It turns out...they didn't. Just like those of us on the anti-war side had said.

So now, according to Mr. Peabody, we owe Bush an apology??? :wtf:

I swear, O'Lielly is sounding more like Stephen Colbert every day. (Except that, as far as I know, Colbert has yet to sic Comedy Central Security on people who disagree with him.)

The article said no such thing. The article stated that "...his top military leaders were stunned when he told them three months before the war that he had no weapons of mass destruction...."

That little change creates a huge distortion of the report. Once again, O'Reilly whoring for the administration.

on edit: Forgot to use [] instead of <>. I blew it.

SO apparently the fact that W was completely wrong is now supposed to support what he said.

23. Then how did I know there were none, when I was a friggin COLLEGE FRESHMAN
Hell, maybe they should have hired me to work in the state department, since I had the common sense to wonder about Rumsfeld's claim to know "exactly" where the weapons were but for some reason couldn't tell the inspectors on the ground where to look. Or the fact that the "legitimate sources" were almost certainly disgruntled Iraqis with a vested interest in deposing Hussein. Or the close allegiance of the current administration with the PNAC and their fixation on Pax Americana at all costs. It was obvious, it didn't take a genius to see what was going on.

No, Bill, in fact I'd rather hear you apologize to us for your pre-war blustering and verbal assaults against everyone who dared to ask these terribly inconvenient questions.

It is well worth a mere three nights to get parts 1 2 and 3.
The rest of the world apparently has seen this two years ago, why not us? Not only is the world laughing at us retards here in the States, they have moved on to bigger and better things.

26. So, someone like Saddam can fool the best intelligence in the world
and cause the elite technocrats to implode their nations? That's great. Who needs weapons when all you really need are a few false memos, a few empty trucks, and a lot of scary propaganda? If it weren't so sad about all the lives lost, this would be really funny. How much does our intelligence cost us each year? Say it isn't so.
