Feingold doesn't owe ANYONE an apology or an explanation

The furor among Democrats surrounding Russ Feingold's censure motion appears to me to be just another example of the doubt, confusion and hand wringing that BushCo and their accomplices in the mainstream media have been able to achieve over the last few years. Who would have thought a few years back that standing up for the rule of law, the most fundamental underpinning of our Constitution, would be considered foolish, ill timed or inadvisable? Is it better to curse the darkness or light a match? Feingold lit a match and the if the rest don't want to open their eyes and find the way out of Plato's cave so be it. I am stunned at the seeming simplicity of this decision. Democratic Senators, it would seem to me, would merely have to state that they took an oath to defend the Constitution and that is what they are doing.

The other gigantic aspect to this story that defies logic is the fact that Democrats have had their asses handed to them for the last few years by not fighting and yet they continue to insist that not taking Bush on directly or immediately will somehow miraculously become a winning strategy.

If Feingold sent a message to anyone, it was to his fellow Democrats. The message was that he has staked out the true opposition to BushCo policies by his actions as well as his words and the world will be his oyster if things continue to be revealed to Americans about BushCo's nefarious dealings. Hillary had better take notice that the base is twice as pissed off as those in the middle that despise the BushCo regime and their GOP enablers.

I live in Wisconsin and today I couldnt be more proud of Russ Feingold nor could I be more angry at his fellow Democratic Senators.
What the hell is the matter with Senators Kohl (also from Wisconsin) and Biden and all the rest that refuse to stand up and fight for this Democracy?

...but this sounds like much too familiar a refrain to me -- almost identical to the melody of us Dean supporters in late 2003.

The world won't be Feingold's oyster if, no matter how shabbily the Republicans perform, the "mainstream" Democratic leadership declares that he's too "extreme" and "angry" and devotes themselves to eliminating his supposed threat to "our appeal to the all-important center" before they even think about taking on the Republicans with one of their own kind.

We saw it happen to Dean; I see no reason why the same scenario won't play itself out once more with Feingold, no matter how low Bush and his fellow Republicans fare over the next couple of years.

I hate to say it, but I do so wish our party had its very own Newt Gingrich and core of "true believers."
