I went to my town Board of Trade meeting last night. Ended up sitting with several other small business owners for a while after. I was reading the news this morning about the Dems' caution (to put it kindly) in censuring Bush over the illegal wiretapping. They have no idea how angry people are. This is the local business community and people were raving mad over the political situation - local and national. Furious and frustrated. Our local town supervisor (R) was quoted in the paper last week as saying "Why would anyone want to come here? <to our town>) in an article that accurately described his chain-smoking in the town offices (an illegal act) and tried to weasel out of the whole picture in a rebuttal in the paper yesterday that was obviously written by his assistant. (The one-on-one interview was what I'd expect to see from Bush without his handlers - as if that would ever happen.) We have increasing numbers of vacant businesses on our Main Street and I heard that one of our larger employers was scaling way back last week and laid people off. Our supervisor responds by saying "Why would people want to come here?" I couldn't help but wonder if he isn't right - why should anyone want to join a community that would elect him... even if he did win by a 6 vote margin?
