Seems like there were only a handful then, too.

It might be interesting to compare all the lists of who can be counted on at crucial times and see how they rate over time.

1. This is true!
I think we should back this censure resolution. It's a start. I wish others had backed Sen. KErry then, that would have been the right thing to do.

2. I back censure - I am just dead set against dissing impeachment case in
any attempt to make it happen. That just doesn't seem right.

4. I think most of us agree with that, including Feingold.
I see no down side to calling out the Republicans on Feingold's censure resolution. You are either with this imperial president or you are with the "rule of law." Which is it, Mr. Senator?

7. To name a few: Gore, Reed, Pelosi, Bayh, even Trent Lott
BTW, I don't think Kerry actually called for him to be fired. It was more like he called for Rumsfeld to "quit" I think. Not trying to be picky, just sayin.

8. He asked for Rumsfeld to take responsibility and resign
and if he wouldn't resign, he should be fired. He did this back in the spring of '04 and then renewed the call for removing Rumsfeld in the fall and after the election.

12. Cool. Yeah, I clearly remember Kerry being very vocal about it. Check
this out, though, what Gore had to say back in the Spring of '04 where he demanded "the resignation of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, national security adviser Condoleezza Rice and CIA director George Tenet". Gore also said that "electing Democrat John Kerry as president would be the first step toward dealing with Iraq." Look at the veins popping in his head. I'd say he was just a little bit more than upset: http://www.usatoday.com/news/politicselections/nation/president/2004-05-26-gore-speech_x.htm

17. They had and have a right to be upset
Rumsfeld is an incompetent boob and as Sec of Defense has mismanaged the military and helped to get the US into a war that is a disaster or epic proportions.

Everyone should be mad about that. Rumsfeld should resign. Unfortunately, he will probably get a 'Medal of Freedom' from That Friggin Idiot.

10. Kerry demanded firing. He told Rummy to resign later
after it was obvious Bush wouldn't fire him.

The point was that only a FEW senators backed Kerry on this, even while he was the Dem nominee. We can learn alot as a party from a list that shows where Dems come down at crucial times.

>>>>>
Kerry campaign, May 7th 2pm email:
"Over the past week we have all been shocked by the pictures from the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq. But we have also been appalled at the slow and inept response by President Bush, which has further undermined America's credibility in the world and created new dangers for Americans in Iraq. George Bush must fire Donald Rumsfeld. http://www.johnkerry.com/petition/rumsfeld.php"

Kerry campaign, May 7th 8pm email
"We reached our goal of 50,000 signers in a matter of hours and then blew past it to more than 64,000. So now we're setting a new goal: 100,000."

MoveOn, May 8th email:
"In the wake of revelations of torture and abuse of Iraqi prisoners, John Kerry has launched an important petition calling for President Bush to fire Donald Rumsfeld. Getting rid of Secretary Rumsfeld would be a huge step forward for all of us who oppose the Bush war policy, and Kerry needs to hear our support. To sign on to the petition, go to: "

6. Add me to that list.
I actually called the White House 2 years ago. I asked them to Fire Rumsfailed. This was when the Abu Ghraib scandal broke.

Believe me, that's something I've never done in my life. I'm a pretty easy-going person; would never raise a stink. But that time I did.

9. Kerry rightfully went after a bush minion, but
Feingold went after the incompetent head honcho of all the minions.

11. He should as a member of the judiciary committee.
Just like Kerry should have stayed in Davos doing his job as ranking member of the Finance Committee.

13. Kerry is a great guy who has had the opportunity
to renounce his vote and call for an investigation into impeachment because of the violations of the IWR. 4 years later for Kerry and he is still maintaining radio silence on why that should be an impeachable offense. Feingold stood up and came after bush on legal grounds of breaking the law on warrantless wiretapping just 8 weeks after Bush mentions he did it. 8 weeks vs. 4 years. Just sayin'

16. I like apples. I like oranges.
Impeachment is a house job. No senator should discuss it since they become the judge and jury AFTER impeachment.

Maybe more senators should have signed Downing Street Memos letter of inquiry - that would have helped focus on Bush's illegal maneuvers earlier and was the first tangible proof that Bush lied.

14. Do you hate Baucus that much?
Kerry is just a member, not ranking member. He is ranking member of the Small Business Committee.
